1 Old Grudges on Wed Feb 11, 2015 12:08 am

First topic message reminder :

"We will save her, sire!" Rothain shouted, fighting to make a path to the doorway for his king. It was proving harder than he thought. More people were coming in than going out. It was looking like it would be better to head toward the window and try for a jump. "Dahlia is alive. I must believe that." He whispered to himself.

Marid shook his head, "Go haunt something, woman. I must work..." He disappeared back into the cave, now scowling down at the mirror image of his wife. "Your father is in the middle of a war between humans and dwarves. Shall we go and save him?" He asked Dahlia.

"Why?" Rothain asked her, good by now at hiding the hurt in his voice. "What did you tell your creature to do to them? Will it please your human king?"

Marid ignored her, opening up a clearing for the elf king. Soon enough he would bring Dahlia and the king's pet here as well. Then he'd let the dwarves and the humans find them.

Dahlia wasn't quite so apt at hiding her own hurt, and those words stung like a blade. "You never even saw me until you thought i was marrying Saul." She whispered. "I'll only ever be a pupil to you, the sooner I accept that, the less it will hurt every time you push me away."

Abalas didn't dare ask where the clearing had come from, or how the trees seemed to close up after he entered, he was simply thankful of someplace he could heal Iris. The king gently laid his future queen down on the cool grass and went about finding clean water to clean her wound.

"I understand that feeling better than you think." Rothain said softly not daring to look at her as he took several steps back and sighed softly.

Marid grinned as a hot spring appeared from nowhere. He hated to say it but he truly did love being a djinni. He lived the power he was in control of.

"I'm going to end this war, Ro." Dahlia swore. "Saul started it because he thinks you were keeping me from upholding a deal I made. I will fix that." She too was avoiding looking at the wood elf now, afraid she would beg him to stop her.

The elf king was too concerned for Iris to question anything at all right then. He assumed the spring had always been there as he filled his water skin with the warm liquid. "Iris, sweetheart, can you open your eyes for me?" Abalas breathed when he returned to her side.

Rothain narrowed his wood colored eyes at her. "You plan to honor the deal you made to betray me?" He asked her, crossing his arms over his chest. "I'm afraid I cannot allow you to do that. You are to be my wife, Dahlia. I will kill him before I allow him to touch what is mine."

"You have lost your mind, your majesty." Iris whispered, her bright green eyes fluttering open. "Bartrand isn't going to let this go. He hates it when people take things from him. Even if he didn't want them..."

"I am to be your wife only because my father gave me to you, not because you asked me!" Dahlia hissed. "How dare you call me yours, when you cannot bear to even touch me!"

"Bertrand can kiss my ass, as the humans say." Abalas teased as his cool fingers gently poured the warm water over the wound in Iris's thigh.

"Do you want me to touch you?" Rothain asked raising an eyebrow. "You have never acted as if you have. For all I know, I disgust you."

Iris let out gasping breath, shivering. "I'm not worth all this trouble." She breathed.

The faint blush to Dahlia's usually ivory cheeks made it blatantly obvious that that was exactly what she wanted. "Don't follow me, elf. You'll only get yourself killed." Was her reply as she turned away to walk deeper into the trees.

"You're right." Abalas agreed. "You're worth more. I can see why your brother waged war for you."

"Oh no you don't..." Ro had seen the blush and he wasn't about to leave things like that. He didnt notice when the trees opened up to allow him in.
Marid  was grinning widely. This was easier than he'd first thought.

"It's not for me." Iris whispered. "I don't fool myself with thoughts like that. I heard Bartrand while we were traveling Saul wants dahlia. She promised him something. He is trying to collect. It has nothing to do with me.

Dahlia didn't notice the trees opening up either as she had turned back to Rothain at that exact moment. "Stop! Just go back to your precious Gwen and all the things the two of you flaunted for the entire world to see!"

"That damn girl will be the death of me..." Abalas murmured wearily. "She promised Saul he could have her before any other man. It's sickening to see that war broke out all because your brother can barely keep it in his pants when confronted with a headstrong virgin!"

"I might as well, it's not as if you wanted me." Rothain hissed, unable to hide his hurt this time. "Better to deal out your body to a human then to allow me to have you. Isnt that, right ?"

"mother always said the fate of the kingdom was ran from penis. I often wondered how right she was. my brother seems to have proved her point. no offense Your Majesty." Iris whispered, ashamed of her crude tone.

"You only wanted me when you thought someone else did!" Dahlia shot back. "It's just a body! If you wanted it so damn much, why go to Gwen instead?!"

Abalas couldn't help the easy sounding chuckle that escaped his lips when Iris said this. "Your mother sounds like a wise woman."

Rothain didn't notice the growing darkness around them, even though he probably should have. "You've always hated me. Admit it, you were all too happy I went to your sister. It made your skin crawl to think that I might touch you that way."

"You would have adored her, Abalas." Iris said softly. "everyone did. at least until my father found out she bedded an elf at some point during their marriage. He may he tried to be equals but not when it came to his wife."

"Well now we shall never know! I will not marry you, Rothain!" Dahlia roared. "I will not spend the rest of my life forever being compared to her!" The young woman was so angry now that the air around her was practically crackling with electricity.

"Was your father much like your brother?" Abalas asked curiously. "I wonder what would make your mother stray to an elf, if he was such a grand man?" He added, despite having strayed from his own former wife twice now.

Rothain grabbed Dahlia and pressed his lips to hers. "Her who?" he breathed, his mud colored eyes glittering. He remembered a time when the elder woman had said the same thing. He had mocked her. He wasn't doing that too Dahlia.

"I've heard he was a sun elf but nothing more. I don't know what's so special about them." Iris answered wearily.

Dahlia still had the fear that Rothain would break her heart the moment he had what he wanted. The younger princess didn't think herself beautiful like her sister, though she had never known of her Fae lineage until now, Dahlia had somehow always felt she was different to the other elves.

As an elf from the northern territory, Abalas of course had a dislike of the sun elves, even if he had only ever met a few of them. He found them soft and air headed. "And like a sun elf, he just abandoned your mother?"

"I'm sorry." Ro whispered after a moment. "I don't know what more proof you need that you will never want me. It's obvious I disgust you."

Iris shrugged. "I don't know. I never saw him before I was born or after. I don't know if he ever existed at all to be honest. I was an infant when my father burned my mother at the stake for what she'd done."

"You think you know me so well." Dahlia hissed, his words once again cutting her. "You think you actually know me, simply because my father tasked you with my protection? Stay away from me, elf! I cannot say it any more clearly than that!"

"And your father was without sin himself?" Abalas breathed gently, his fingers warm now as he laid them over her wound, allowing the flesh to knit together just enough to stop infection from entering.

"As you wish." Rothain snapped, disappearing into the darkness of the trees around them.

"He was a king. His wrongs were forgivable. At least to our people and my brother." Iris sighed.

Once Rothain was out of sight, Dahlia slumped to the ground with her back against a thick oak tree. This was for the best, it had to be given the dislike that Marid had seemed to show the male elf. It didn't mean she had to like it.

"No man is above fault, king or no." Abalas assured Iris gently. "Your brother doesn't seem like the same man I saw when I was in your kingdom the last time either. That time... He still seemed like the bright eyed boy he had been when he visited my palace as a child."

"Shall I kill him now?"Marid asked appearing beside her. "Poor child, cast aside yet again."

"I was thinking the same thing." Iris sighed. "I don't understand why he is so obsessed over Dahlia."

"She was cruel and vindictive... And she had Ro." Dahlia whispered, still staring off at nothing in particular. "What was there to like?"

"His men were drunk, how could he really hope to find us?" Abalas asked, arrogantly thinking he was the reason they were still hidden.

"Was is the word." Marid purred looking past Dahlia at Darla. The ghost knew what he had done.

iris opened her mouth to tell Abalas not to be so comfortable when Gwen's lifeless body dropped in between them. She couldn't help but scream as she got to her feet.

"What did she wish for?" Dahlia asked thinly, not needing the unseen form of her mother to explain anything to her.
"Marid... what do you gain from doing this?" Darla asked sadly.

Abalas didn't move. True, his children had betrayed him deeply, but did that make him cease to love them? Of course not. "Gwen...?" The king breathed uncertainly, reaching out to touch the young woman's golden hair.

"She asked for peace. I offered it to her since I could not give her my services." Marid answered them both. "She had already tried to poison herself. The death was slow and hellish."

"Oh, Abalas..." Iris breathed, "I'm so sorry..."she added, not sure what else to say.

"Poisoned herself because of what she did to our father, or because she thought she had lost Rothain?" Dahlia wondered out loud.

Abalas also didn't know what else to say, he leaned over Gwen, seemingly checking that she wasn't breathing. "She could be sleeping..." He murmured, apparently not quite ready to accept more death on his house.

"Because of her part in what happened to the boy." Marid spoke over Dahlia's head. "She truly loved him despite using him to hurt her father and younger sister."

"sire..." Rothain could barely catch his breath. It was worse when he saw what his king was holding. "Spirits preserve us..."

"And he loves her." Dahlia whispered, not realising that Marid hadn't actually been speaking to her. "How could he not? She was beautiful."
Darla wished she could hold her daughter. The girl seemed incapable of forming friendships with anyone.

Abalas lifted his head at the sound of his friend's voice. "Ro! Wake her!" The king insisted, though he was holding his eldest daughter's unmoving form close to him now."

"These elves put your family to shame..."Marid told his wife. "They are terrifying. She may not be my daughter but she is yours. I'm going to kill the boy and save her his heartache." He hissed.

Rothain stared at the strange scene before him, not sure what to make of it. "Your majesty...what's happened?"

Dahlia had lifted her head now and was glancing around, expecting to find someone else with them. "Who are you talking to?" She breathed, feeling like she was half asleep and unable to grasp what was happening.
"Are you so sure of that, husband?" Darla whispered.

"Gwen... Her body just appeared out of thin air." Abalas breathed. While magic was common place, producing something from thin air was something he hadn't seen in many years.
