1 Night and Day on Sun Jul 19, 2015 11:46 pm

First topic message reminder :

Katie Rivers stood on the bleachers, staring at the evening sky. She hated night. Darkness gave her a sense of unwelcome anxiousness that she would much rather ignore. She was a bubbly person filled with light and joy that was hard to surpress.
"There they come." Ann Talley, another of the cheerleaders whispered with glee. She was talking about the night students, of course, those that only showed up at night.
It was the first night of the year and all the students were gathering on the field for the annual "meet and greet" that kicked off the year.
Katie stood on tiptoe on the bleacher to see, frowning at the sudden cloud of darkness that was preventing her from seeing anything at all. The night students were a mystery to everyone. They avoided the day class and no one really knew why. Rumor had it it was because they were from rich families. At least ones that were richer than all the others.
The little blonde was looking so hard to see she slipped on the cold metal and lost her balance. The ground behind her began to come up fast and she shut her eyes. There wasn't even enough time to scream. This was going to hurt.

Raife Saunders scowled at the giggling girls that were watching the night students arrive. "Stuck up and stupid." He growled, not sure if he meant the girls or the night class. He hated them both. The cheerleaders were whores and hr had no words for the night class. This wasn't his first year with them. He knew something wasn't right. He just wished someone would listen.
Sighing deeply he pulled out a pack of cigarettes and lit one. He was bound to get in trouble sooner or later. Why not start the year off right?
He watched Katie Rivers as he took a drag and wondered where her sister was. Probably under the bleachers tying shoelaces together he concluded with a laugh. When Katie fell and hit that cotton ball head of hers, he'd know for sure...

Malik didn't answer. He'd seen Jack Saunders wandering around the campus. He knew the former hunter was making sure his daughter was setting things up so that he could get his revenge. The ancient vampire was curious to see how well Ebony would play her roll in all this.

"Really?" Katie asked, pausing in her cheerful humming. She'd been working on the french toast and had barely noticed the fact that she'd burned herself more than once. "Why did they do that?"

Ebony didn't really socialise with the other night class students. She felt they looked down their noses at her for not being a vampire, only a witch. Of course, if any of them found out who she really wa,s or even that she was a hunter, things would get rather... uncomfortable.

"It was so weird." Jess continued, known for her love of gossip. "They're always so bold and confident, aren't they? This one... She just seemed... annoyed. She wanted to know how long your new boyfriend had been sneaking into your room."

Malik had been at all surprised when Marie hadn't shown up for the dinner he'd cooked for her. He'd waited unti) nearly dawn and packed it up, setting aside some of it in the lunch pail she took with her to teach very day before he retired for the night.

"Oh my goodness, Jess! Did you send this girl packing?" Katie asked, her protest a little too loud. "I doubt seriously I would do something like that and the nerve of for asking!"

Marie had been out hunting all night, though Malik was certainly on her mind. She hated not having control of her own life when her mother was around. She was far too old to be treated like some teenager being sized up for what could quite possibly be an arranged marriage knowing her mother. Her refusal to attend the dinner was her only way of scraping back some semblance of control.

"Well... I couldn't say either way, now could I?" Jess replied with a smirk. "The weird thing was, she didn't really seem interested in the guy, you know? She was asking questions about you."

Julian spent the last part of the night and early in the morning with Frost and he hated every moment of it. Though he would seem to her an invested lover, it was only because he had someone else on his mind.

"Probably someone making her check up on me." Katie said. She thought on this for a while and finally shrugged. This had to be the reason. Why would anyone else even care?

This fact was rarely lost on Frost. She had known Julian had been thinking of the other witch since the moment he first laid eyes on Ebony. It was the reason she refused to release him; she was simply being cruel. "When will you see she doesn't want you?" She finally snapped as midday approached.

"You sure about that?" Jess asked as she chewed her lower lip. "You think he's some obsessive stalker who has minions watch you when he's not around?"

Julian had been spending his time taking a bath, all but buried under the water. It didn't matter to him that Frost had turned it cold a long time ago. "We'really not talking about Red again, are we?" He chuckled. "Because you know we have that whole wolf and the bitch thing going on. Is that pissing you off too?"

"Who Evan?" Katie asked with a laugh. She didn't actually mean a boy. She meant the hunter's guild. They were keeping tabs on her and she knew it. They were laying claim to her blood just like the vampires were.

"You know who I mean." Frost snapped, the bathwater very almost freezing over. "She's been right under your nose for months now, and never once even spoken to you unless she had no choice." She added, simply wanting to hurt Julian now. "As for your precious Red... Well she has no need for you either. She uses you to distract from her own problems."

Jess knew nothing of the hunters guild, or of vampires. Everything was so black and white in her safe little world. "I think there's someone new." She breathed, her bright blue eyes dancing at the mere thought. "And I don't think Evan stands a chance. Maybe your new guy is the one who put poor Evan in the hospital!"

Julian didn't respond to this, her words truly tearing at his insides. He got to his feet, shaking water everywhere like a wet dog. He knew she hated it. "Are you hungry? I was thinking we'd leave the school this evening for dinner. We haven't been out in a while." He said softly, not bothering to look at her as he shook again.

Katie laughed again. "I doubt it." She finished her chore and headed to class, not even realizing she'd all but admitted there was someone besides Evan. Her thoughts were on the girl that had asked about her and she found herself wondering if it was the one who had called herself, "Little Red".

"You never want to go out." Frost replied suspiciously, his request enough to distract from the water all over the floor that would usually have caused her to storm out.

Jess had spent the day pestering Katie for information about her mystery boyfriend, and who the night class girl had been.

"You like that little Thai restaurant. Right?" Julian asked, ignoring her question. He grabbed her brush off the dresser and began using it, smiling to himself when she again said nothing.

Katie avoided the questions for the most part, beginning to lose energy toward the afternoon. She was still suffering the effects of the blood loss from before and still refused to do anything about it.

Frost didn't understand what had happened. Julian never acted this way, he couldn't act this way. "Yes." She answered thinly. "And you'll buy me a new dress!" She informed him with a huff.

"Here." The night class girl that Jess had been talking about held a sealed flask of something out to Katie as she waited for the other girl outside her classroom. "It will help, I promise."

"As long as it doesn't break the bank, my darling." Julian chuckled, leaning over to kissue her on the tip of her pert nose. "Now hurry up. I'll be ready long before you."

Katie was looking extremely pale. Luckilyfor her most of the other students seemed to think that she was coming down with something.
"You again?" Katie asked, leaning hard against her locker. "I thought you guys only came out at night?" She didn't take the flask just yet, not sure it was something she should even do.

Frost didn't take all that long to get ready, in fact she was pacing up and down as she waited for Julian to finish preening himself. She couldn't explain this feeling of apprehension she had as she thought about them going out for dinner.

"And I thought you people enjoyed the sun." Little Red replied with a shrug. "You look like shit. If you don't take this, people are going to start talking. Is that something you want to face right now?" She added in a blunt manner that was most likely quite familiar to Katie.

"Well?" It had been a long time since Julian had cared to put on anything at was even remotely nice. That afternoon he came out wearing his best, his hair pulled back in just the way Frost liked it. He looked like the man she'd stolen from the world.

"They'll call the nurse and send me to my room I'm sure." Katie said softly. The girls tone was so familiar it made her chest hurt. It made her miss her sister even more.

For the longest moment Frost was speechless, simply staring at Julian. "There you are..." She breathed at last, remembering the man she had fallen for all those years ago.

"And the nurse wont be able to help." Little Red pointed out, taking Katie's hand and forcing the flash into it. "This will make you better, we both know it will and I don't have time to walk on eggshells right now."

Julian gave her his devil may care grin and laughed, reaching out to give her golden curls a bounce. "Did I really take that long?" He asked. He leaned close to her, his lips brushing hers. "I hope I am worth the wait."

Katie looked around her and then opened the flask. One whiff of what was inside made her gums ache. She looked up at the other girl, not realizing that there was a crimson glow to her eyes. "Have you lost your mind?!" She hissed, quickly screwing the cap back on. "Take this and go back to your dorm!"

"You are worth everything I do." Frost breathed, her hands gently holding Julian's face as he kissed her.

Little Red's moonlight coloured eyes blazed angrily and she squared up to the taller girl. "Suck it up!" She hissed. "I have to get to work, and you need to get over your princess complex!" She added before turning away.

Julian said nothing to this, his eyes darkening ever so slightly. "Come on then. It's time to go. We're going to be late."

"You need to mind your own damn business." Katie hissed back, shoving the flask at the other girl.

Frost felt Julian's mood shift as she had so many times before, and as always she ignored it. He was her's whether he wanted to be or not.

"You mother must be so proud of the coward she raised." Little Red sneered, letting the flask fall to the ground and roll back to Katie's feet. That said, she was gone like she had never even been there.

Julian was careful to maintain his good mood throughout the afternoon as he catered to Frost's every desire. He was an attentive lover, one most women would have been jealous over.

Katie took the flask to Glenda's office with shaking hands. Gingerly she sat it on the elder woman's desk. "A night student gave me this. I didn't drink it." She whispered. Weakly she sank into the plush chairs and closed her eyes.

Frost was well aware of the the longing looks that Julian received while they were out that afternoon, though she paid little attention; he had no choice but to stay close to her. It was for this reason she didn't pay any attention to the crimson haired waitress with the haunted grey eyes who greeted them as they entered the restaurant that evening.

Glenda took one brief sniff off the flask and set it back down with a shake of her head. "Foolish girl..." She murmured, though it wasn't directed at Katie. "Has she approached you before now?"

Julian's nose was twitching.  The scent on the air had nothing to do with the food. He wished he could investigate but for some reason Frost was keeping him on a very tight leash. He ordered something bloody in both alcohol and meat and stared at his witch, not seeing the waitress at all.

"I saw her the night the werewolf showed up and then Jess said she was asking about me yesterday." Katie answered, thinking nothing of her answer.

It was midweek, so the restaurant was very quiet and 'Little Red' was the only waitress working, meaning she had had no choice but to serve Julian and Frost. "Can I get you guys any more drinks?" She asked in a rather despondent tone as she reached across Julian to remove his empty glass.

"Idiot!" Glenda had been somewhat unable to contain herself upon hearing this. "Katie, sweetheart, I'm going to need you to call you mother here for me. Tell her she needs to drop whatever dalliance she is busying herself with and come right away."

"Something stronger, kid. Whatever you're feeding me isn't cutting it." Julian said, tipping his head back as an oddly familiar scent filled his nostrils. He stared at the girl, his attention on Frost lost.

"Okay." Katie sighed, groaning at the effort it took to pull herself out of the chair to reach for her phone. "Can I go to bed after we talk? Im feeling tired today, Gran."

"That was always the problem." Little Red breathed only loud enough that Julian would hear.
Frost was glaring at the girl now when she saw the way Julian looked at her. Other woman looking at him she could handle, but him fixated on someone else? That was too much.

Glenda nodded. "You get yourself in bed as soon as you pass on the message. Don't worry about your classes tomorrow, I'll have anything you miss sent to your room."

Julian smirked at the girl, giving her a wink as he held his glass out to her. This one was lovely. She made him miss Ebony even more. Without warning the memory of almost making love to her returned to him and he dropped the glass. He barely registered that it had shattered on the floor.

"Ok." It was odd for Katie to agree to such a thing but since her father's death she'd stopped taking the transfusions. She was getting weaker no matter how she tried to hide it.

Little Red jumped, realising she had been staring at Julian when he winked at her. It was only the sound of the shattering glass that snapped her back to reality. "Oh... sorry... Let me get that..." The young woman was crouched on the floor beside the table as she picked up the larger pieces of glass.
Frost had seen the moment that passed between Julian and this girl, and though she kept her gaze on him, she purposefully dropped her own glass off the table, spilling the wine all over the younger woman as it shattered.

Marie knew what her mother wanted the moment she saw how terrible her daughter looked. "Katie... Honey, you haven't been seeing the nurse for your transfusions, have you?" She chided.

Julian found himself unable to move, even to help the girl by handing her his napkin. He could only sit staring at her as if her thought it was as funny as Frost seemed to.

"Gran wants to talk about some night student." Katie said as she passed her mother. "I'm fine." She promised, trying to sound upbeat. It didn't work. "See you in class tomorrow."

"Clumsy girl." Frost sniffed, dropping her used napkin down on Little Red's head.
The young woman saw the way Julian looked at her and rose back to her feet with as much dignity as she could muster. "It's okay, I expect it must be hard holding onto wine glasses when you get as old as you are." She told Frost curtly, offering her sickly sweet smile before storming to the kitchen.

Marie was left to simply watch her daughter walk away, feeling as useless as ever. She wanted so very badly to help her baby, but it seemed she would never be given the chance.
