Night and Day

Katie Rivers stood on the bleachers, staring at the evening sky. She hated night. Darkness gave her a sense of unwelcome anxiousness that she would much rather ignore. She was a bubbly person filled with light and joy that was hard to surpress. 
"There they come." Ann Talley, another of the cheerleaders whispered with glee. She was talking about the night students, of course, those that only showed up at night. 
It was the first night of the year and all the students were gathering on the field for the annual "meet and greet" that kicked off the year. 
Katie stood on tiptoe on the bleacher to see, frowning at the sudden cloud of darkness that was preventing her from seeing anything at all. The night students were a mystery to everyone. They avoided the day class and no one really knew why. Rumor had it it was because they were from rich families. At least ones that were richer than all the others. 
The little blonde was looking so hard to see she slipped on the cold metal and lost her balance. The ground behind her began to come up fast and she shut her eyes. There wasn't even enough time to scream. This was going to hurt.

Raife Saunders scowled at the giggling girls that were watching the night students arrive. "Stuck up and stupid." He growled, not sure if he meant the girls or the night class. He hated them both. The cheerleaders were whores and hr had no words for the night class. This wasn't his first year with them. He knew something wasn't right. He just wished someone would listen. 
Sighing deeply he pulled out a pack of cigarettes and lit one. He was bound to get in trouble sooner or later. Why not start the year off right? 
He watched Katie Rivers as he took a drag and wondered where her sister was. Probably under the bleachers tying shoelaces together he concluded with a laugh. When Katie fell and hit that cotton ball head of hers, he'd know for sure...

Ebony Rivers was hardly filled with the same school spirit the rest of the school was, least of all her sister. She hated everything about this pointless procession. As far as she was concerned, the night school could go to hell, literally. She and her sister came from a rather well off family, but even she doubted the night schoolers were simply richer than the rest of them. The younger Rivers sister's ruby coloured lips were curling into a wicked grin as she finished her handy work on Katie's shoelaces. She tucked some of her raven hair behind her ear and gathered up her bag before quietly slinking off to find a good spot to watch her sister fall flat on her face in front of everyone.

Tobias Grey was taking little interest in the pupils of the day class as they watched their arrival. He was used to their stares by now, and found the whole lot of them utterly boring. He resented the very thought of sharing the building with mortals. Golden eyes cast only the briefest of glances at the rosy cheeked teens, and then the smell hit him. It was like a warm sea breeze, inviting and, to someone such as himself, deadly. It took only a moment to pinpoint the owner of the beautiful aroma, and he was making his way closer, catching the beautiful blonde as she took an all too sudden tumble.

Katie gasped in relief as her tender body didn't smash into the ground behind the bleachers. "Good catch." She laughed, her good nature getting the better of her. "Have you ever thought of playing football?" Tobias would find himself surrounded by giggling girls that were all viving for his attention. Katie was content to let them have it, even as she placed a hand on his chest. "Thanks for the save, big guy." 

Raife saw the whole thing. Even caught Katie's shoe and her sister. He had a hand on Ebony's arm to keep her near the concession stand with him. "You saw that. Right?" He hissed, holding out the other shoe to her. "That guy was across the field. I'm not fucking nuts..."

"Football?" Tobias echoed, his cool tone making it sound like Katie had just asked him something ridiculous. "I can think of better ways to expel... excess energy." He added with a charming smile before setting Katie lightly back on her feet. He barely even acknowledged the other girls.

"Of course I saw it." Ebony snapped as her moonlight coloured eyes looked up at Raife. "Once again perfect princess Katie is apparently immune to public humiliation." She added.

"Soccer?" Katie asked innocently, blinking sky blue eyes at him. Ann elbowed her hard in the side and she grunted. "Oooh..Cheerleading. I get it." She offered him a warm smile. "That's ok. I don't judge or anything. I've got forms you can fill out...we have tryouts tomorrow."
"Katie, my dear, Tobias is night class. He doesn't do the same activities you do." As usual the head master materialized from nowhere. He gave the sunny blonde a little pat on the shoulder. 
"I'll bet he does a few." Ann purred.

Raife couldn't help but laugh at that. "Your sister is oddly lucky. Must be all that sunshine she soaks in." He snorted and rolled his eyes. "Goes right to her brain...you know they are going to know you did it. Some of the night class saw you." He reminded her.

Of course Tobias heard Ann, and offered her a rather toothy grin before regaining his serious expression. "We always have a use for someone of Katie's... virtue." He commented, which would no doubt earn him a reprimand from the headmaster.

"What are they going to do? Expel me?" Ebony snorted. Though she and Katie were separated by only several minutes in regards to their age, everything about them seemed opposite of each other. "You could always lie and be my alibi, we could say you were having your wicked little way with me under the bleachers." The dark haired twin added with a seductive purr.

"I think not." The headmaster's response was firm and quick. He was giving Tobias a dark look with gray eyes that were almost silver. "Where is your group? You should be with them." He put an arm around Katie's shoulders, turning her quickly away from the golden eyed boy. "Where has your sister gone?"

"My father would love that one." Raife snorted, shaking his head. "You'd better be careful Ebony. Keep it up and he'll do something worse than expelled you. Trust me on that."

Tobias watched them go. He needed a taste of that girl. Sweet young virgins were his absolute favourite. "See you soon, Katie."

Ebony scoffed and rolled her eyes when Raife said this. "Why don't you take Katie her shoe back. I know how much you're dying to be close to her, just like everyone else."

"Oh sure!" Katie said, glancing over her shoulder with a wide smile and a wave. "Good to meet you! Come see me if you...ow!" 
The headmaster gave her a hard push toward the consession, seeing her sister and his son. "Where is your shoe, girl?" He asked to distract her. 

"Who? Katie? That cotton headed ninny? I'm insulted." Raife snorted, tossing aside the fag as his father approached them. "You don't know me. Don't even pretend to try." He hissed as the headmaster came to a stop.

"Oh please, you're a pathetic little Daddy's boy who thinks rebellion is smoking in secret." Ebony sneered before turning her gaze on her sibling. "Oh look, you can't even lose a shoe without someone snatching it up like it's made of magic!"

Katie gave her sister a confused look for a brief moment and then shook her coton colored hair. It came tumbling out of the binding she'd had it in and young men around them began to stare, tongues wagging.
Ebony probably didn't notice but Raife had done nothing but roll his eyes. 
"Have you seen my shoe?" She asked her sister, almost sure she didn't need to ask.

Ebony glanced to Raife, then offered her sister a falsely sweet smile. "I certainly haven't." She responded. "I can't exactly be keeping track of everything the princesses minions may or may not have stolen from her."

Katie gave her sister a hurt look and shook her head. "I'm going to the dorms." She said to the headmaster softly. 
The gray haired man nodded, narrowing his eyes st Ebony. He at least waited until she left to begin his accusation. "Give me the shoe. Tobias told me you have it." He said firmly, despite the fact that he'd spoken to Noone but Katie since he'd arrived on the field. "What were you thinking? Katie could have been killed. It was lucky the Night students got there when they did."

"I don't have her useless shoe." Ebony insisted firmly. "Maybe you should be asking one of her weirdo hair sniffers?" She added, almost like she was goading the headmaster into punishing her. "I should thing any number of her stalkers would jump at the chance to simply touch something belonging to the princess!" The dark haired twin added, casting a purposeful glance to Raife.

"You are not the one who tied the laces together?" Another of the night studentd appeared at the head master's elbow, a pair of tied laces in his hand. 
"Ebony..." the gray haired man was shaking his head as he took the laces. 
Raife frowned at the shoe he'd kicked under the bleachers. He was sure he'd once been holding it by those very laces. But they were gone now. He turned his head, his eyes on the group of night students across the path from them. He narrowed his eyes at the largest of them. He didn't know what kind of game Tobias Grey was playing but he'd figure it out.

"Maybe." Ebony replied evasively. "Maybe the princess doesn't know how to tie her laces." She added with a snort.
"That's not how I saw it, headmaster." Tobias wouldn't even have gotten involved if he hadn't caught Raife glaring at him. "The little witch was crawling out from under the bleachers moments before dearest Katie took her tumble."

"What right does he have to get calling day students by that name?" Raife snapped, making it clear how he felt about the other boy. "Are you going to put up with that?" 
"Name calling is not required but he does raise a good point. Why were you under the bleachers, Miss Rivers?" The Headmaster asked her.
Raife turned his head, nodding ever so slightly. He didn't care if she told them they were under their doing things. He did worry it would ruin whatever reputation she had.

Ebony smiled, her ruby coloured lips hiding her own feelings as always. "I hardly think i was sparing a thought for Katie while I was under there with Raife." She purred. The young girl didn't care at all about her own reputation, no one liked her anyway. She did however know it would anger the headmaster no end.
"This is how you all the day students to act?" Tobias spluttered. "Unacceptable!"

The headmaster narrowed silver eyes at his son and quickly turned to Tobias. "Mr. Grey, forgive me. We can discuss the behaviors of the other students at another time." He said quickly. "I'm sure you'll have something to say about it. For now let me assure you that I will take care of this." He held up his hands as if he were begging. 
For some reason this upset Raife and he was quick to step forward, giving Tobias a shove. "Who died and made you god? It isn't any of your business what I do, asshole!" He snarled.

"But with that?" Tobias sneered as he looked Ebony over. "I would expect more from the headmasters son." He added, shoving Raife with no more then the tips of his fingers, but hard enough to cause the other man to stumble.

Raife launched back to his feet and made a step toward the other boy only to have his father step between them. "You two head to your dorms." The elder man barked. "I will speak to you both when I am done here. Ebony, come with me. Now." It wasn't a request.

For only the briefest of moments there was a worried look in Ebony's grey eyes as she caught Raife's gaze before nodding and following the headmaster. She had been expecting punishment anyway, and knew nothing would have been done had it been any other student she had done this to. Once again she was hating her perfect sister.

"Do you delight in injuring your sister?" The headmaster asked, his hands folded behind his back as they walked. "This isn't the first time I've seen you try to hurt her. However, I don't think you realize what you may have opened her up to." 

Raife waited until his father was out of sight to turn on Tobias and shove him again. He shoved him harder this time. "Don't think I don't see right through you, asshole." He hissed

"Have you ever asked her that question about me? Not all injury is physical, headmaster." Ebony replied thinly.

Tobias glanced down to his blazer where Raife had shoved him, the dusted it off like he would catch something. "You seem to be under the delusion I care about anything a day student does. You are all a waste of resources."

"I can't imagine Katie Rivers ever hurting anyone." The man said, his tone rather thin and filled with warning. "I've never had a girl like her in my school. But you...so much trouble...what am I going to do with you?"

"You act like you own the damn school." Raife snapped. "No wonder the headmaster kisses your ass. Your dad probably pays for half the night class." He added, spitting on Tobias' highly polished shoes.

"Let me guess, there are a thousand others just like me, but Katie is special? Katie is one of a kind? Believe me, I've heard it all my life, and the twin irony isn't lost on me." Ebony sneered.

"My father pays for your tuition, at the very least. You think someone like you would be here, if his father wasn't headmaster?" Tobias spat, suddenly grabbing Raife by the throat. "You are the worst of all the day students. Stick to following the Ebony girl like a lost puppy, and keep your nose out of my business."

"I didn't say you weren't special. Both of you are so very different from the normal girls..."the gray haired man rubbed his forehead. " but you must learn that you can't hurt others. I am going to have to punish you..."

"You leave the day students alone, freak." Raife hissed. "I'll be watching you, just like I do every year."

"Go ahead." Ebony replied sullenly. "You talk like punishment is a new experience for me. Being here, in this place day after day. That's true punishment."

"Keep it up, and I maybe have to take your little girlfriend for myself." Tobias purred, somehow knowing what it was the headmaster had planned for Ebony.

"Maybe being here at night, guarding the night students is just what you need then. Since you have no extra curicular activities like your sister it won't be hard for you to stay up a little later and make sure their group gets safely to class and stays there. "

"Bullshit. You can't stand her.  I'd have to be some kind of idiot not to see it. You don't scare me." Raife hissed, shoving Tobias yet again. 
"Your father wishes to say goodbye." Another of the students said darkly, showing the day student a tooth snarl.

"What?! I'm being forced to babysit?!" Ebony hissed. "Why do they even need that?! You don't make one of them do the same during the day!"

Tobias smiled, glad he had a way of hurting Raife now. "I don't have to like her, to taste her like the whore she obviously is."
