1 Beginning of the end on Wed Aug 24, 2016 7:52 pm

First topic message reminder :

No one can recall dates any longer. Help was coming, they had promised. Who wouldn't believe the promise made to by the brightest minds of the time to the richest families of the time? It had been long enough now that the original citizens of Rapture now had young adult grandchildren. The city had been built just for them. Their lavish playground, or so they liked to believe. It was many years now since anything had been truly 'lavish', it was only as the joy now made them see it; glorious and delightfully decadent.

Some families considered themselves better than others, and rightly so. Few had the money and the power, while the many lived in squalor. One of these families were the Jansen's. The eldest son had two beautiful daughters, who in the society they had left would no doubt have been attendees of many parties and balls, all for the purpose of finding a husband. As it stood, the youngest girl seemed the most adept at wearing her mask. By day she was the spoiled little princess she was supposed to be, making fun of the lower classes and generally being a horrible person. But as night fell and her joy pill began to wear off... She often thought of life outside her parent's massive apartment, of life in the 'workers' levels of the city. Anika Jansen would fall asleep troubled by the things her imagination thought up. It was this particular night that she had finally plucked up the courage to slip out of her parent's home, though of course she would stand out a mile in her expensive clothing and perfect make up.

At some point in the small hours Anika had gotten so close to Elliott that it was almost like she wished to be inside his skin with him. The small woman was lay against his chest, a smile on her lips as her slender legs were tangled within the long layers of her dress.

"Then break it!" The king instructed rather forcefully. "If it is making her ill, then nothing worse can come from severing it!"

Elliot was certain he was going to die. Even as he wrapped his arms around his queen and held her close to him, he knew it. He was lying there thinking of all the horrific ways the king was going to torture him and wondering if he was even going to care. He had this moment to go back to. It was enough for him.

"It is a family thread, sire. If I break it she will die." The mystic said, shaking her head. "There's little I can do than give her goblin medicine and let her ride out the illness."

The waking world returned all too quickly for Anika. Even when she was again awake, she still lay there with Elliott, wondering what his freeing her actually meant.

The king growled in frustration and took to pacing the room. "In the human world she took these pills... Could they help?"

Elliot was asleep when Anika opened her eyes. He'd let go of his human form, not thinking that she might wake while he rested and be afraid of what she saw. He was comfortable and at peace. It was something that was very rare for him.

The mystic was scowling. "Oh...those pills. Do you have any, sire? I'd like to see them. Leave her with me and you go prepare for your wedding. We'll get this sorted out. This one is...of little use to you anyway. Right?"

Anika wasn't quite so shocked this time. The young woman was tracing a slender finger along one of Elliott's horns, smiling at how different it felt to anything she had been expecting.

The king hesitated, though his fingers were wrapped around the pendant he had taken from Victoria. "You are right... Just make her well, my bride will need her at the wedding."

Elliot stirred when he felt the gentle fingers on his horn, offering Anika a sleepy smile. "You are so warm." He breathed. "Are all your kind so warm?" He reached out, unable to resist running his own fingers along her cheek.

Anika paused with her fingers against his horns, though she closed her eyes and leaned her cheek into his fingers as they brushed her cheek. "My sister always tells my I have cold hands." She breathed, smiling blissfully.

"Perhaps it is your sister who is cold." Elliot laughed softly, leaning his head close to her. He pressed his lips to hers before he could convince himself otherwise. It was too late for him. He was already overtaken with his desire for his queen.
"Anika!" Victoria had managed to ellude her mystic captor and come looking for her sister. She'd been in a blind panic to find her missing from the cell. "What in the hell is wrong with you?!" She hissed.

Anika's heart had been fluttering like a butterfly in a bell jar when Elliott had kissed her and sighed softly against his lips when she heard her sister shriek her name. The younger sister took a moment to calm her racing pulse, then looked over her shoulder at Victoria. "I have done nothing you have not already done with my fiance."

"Shut up. You get out of that bed before he shows up by the way." Victoria hissed at the goblin male. "And you...I have a plan to get you out of this marriage but you have to trust me. Both of you. Can you do that? We don't have much time."
Without waiting for them to agree the elder girl sat down on the bed and told her sister her plan to cover their heads for the night wedding. By the time the king figured out who was who the younger sister would be long gone.
"Are you insane?" Elliot hissed at Victoria. "He'll kill you when he learns that you've lied to him."
"I'm okay with that. You just get her back home as soon as you can and never look back." Tori said firmly.

Anika was shaking her head long before Victoria had even finished speaking. "You really think I will just leave you behind for him to torture and punish?!" She hissed. "No. I know my place... no matter what my heart feels." She breathed, casting a glance to Elliott.

"I agree with your sister." Elliot was saying, the moment their eyes met. "I'm going to take you back."
Victoria nodded. "I'm not afraid of him, Ani. Besides, you know grandmother always said I was the worthless one. Let me do this. Let me feel important for once. I'll feel better knowing that you are safe and away from all this. Please?" Gingerly she took her sister's hands, smiling weakly. "You're so cold. See...I've already let bad things happen to you."

Tears streaked down Anika's face, feeling liek both the people she trusted were betraying her. "I wont go back there!" She insisted. "I wont go back to that dull, awful world!" Anika had always assumed everyone saw things in black and white, it wasn't until she came to the goblin city that she saw everything in colour. It explained why she had been so overjoyed by the bedroom she was given, and the violet gown in the closet. The sad truth was, it was a side effect of the forced destiny her grandmother had bestowed upon her.

"Then I will take you to the next kingdom over." Elliot told her. "But I cannot stay with you. My kind are not welcome there."
"I want you to be free, Ani." Victoria whispered, taking her sister's face in her hands. "This way we can both be free. Don't you see that? It will be fine. Trust me. Just this once."

Anika was finding it harder and harder to breathe. She had never been truly alone before, and yet Elliott and her sister both wanted her to somehow manage. "I do trust you, Tori. I'm just... afraid."

Victoria smiled. "Don't be, Ani. Everything will be fine. I don't know how I know this but...I do. Maybe it's that magic that grandmother talks so much about. Come on. Let's start getting dressed. You'll need to help me get into that horrid dress and do my hair." She laughed softly.

Anika knew she wasn't as strong as her sister. She couldn't pretend everything was just fine, just as she couldn't pretend that she didn't want to beg for Elliott to stay with her once he took her to this other kingdom. The young woman was quiet as she took the wedding gown from the closet and carefully laid it out on the bed.

Victoria shuddered. She was fond of reds and dark colors. This would do her no favors.
Elliot was silent as he helped the two girls dress, gentle as he put on the veil that would hide Anika from the king. "He's going to think you're mourning the marriage." He chuckled, dropping the black lace into place. "Hell be more amused than offended, you know."

Anika tried to swallow the lump in her throat, feeling this was an even more frightening experience than marrying the king would have been. She didn't say anything the Elliott right away, instead she reached up on her tiptoes, brushing her lips to his through her veil. "Once he see's how beautiful Victoria is in that dress, he wont even notice."

"You mean Anika." He teased her, tapping her pert nose. He had a feeling he was going to be punished as well. He and her sister were going to die around the same time.
"I look like a grape. No...a a bunch of sad grapes. And I thought I was ugly before!" Victoria wailed.

"Tori, you couldn't be ugly if your very life depended on it." Anika assured her sister gently. "Just look at me... I look like one of those creepy dolls grandmother kept in the dining room."

Victoria couldn't help but laugh at the thought. She had even thought of those dolls in years. "The one on the end that talked at night." She said softly. "Maria. Remember her?"

"When I asked why they were all dressed in black, she told me they were just waiting for a funeral." Anika replied, and though she smiled sadly, Victoria wouldn't even see it.

"Grandmother said the dolls didn't talk. She said they weren't alive but...without the joy..." Victoria pulled down her own veil to mask the frown. "I wonder who's funeral they were going to. Maria never told me."

"Mine." Anika whispered. "Grandmother always had high hopes for you, but my life was over the second I was born, according to her."

"That's a lie. She wouldn't have called me worthless if that were true." Victoria snapped.
"Ladies, it's time." Elliot said, steering them both toward the door. He was hearing something they didnt.

Anika hadn't been given the time to say so, but it had stung when Victoria snapped at her. The younger girl simply walked a few feet behind her sister, holding the flowing silk train of the wedding gown she herself was supposed to have worn.

Elliot was watching his king as they approached. He was giddy that this farce was happening. He couldn't explain it but he felt free himself, even though he knew he never would be.
He handed the wrong sister to his king and bowed. Stepping back with an arm around the other sister's waist.

The king was smiling at his bride, though it didn't quite reach his eyes. He was much like they were; going through the motions. This was all a mere task to him now, as his days would be spent continuing to chase Victoria, or so he thought.
Anika's fingers rested gently over those against her slender waist, though she kept her eyes on the bride.

Soon enough the wedding was over and Victoria was being led away from the king. The goblin woman were cooing over her, promising to get her ready for the night ahead.

Elliot was already leading Anika out and to the horses he'd stored outside the gates. They would have to be quick or this would all fall apart.
