Thicker than Water

"They were bitten, not dead and buried." Wesker corrected. "I'm sorry Alex, we are not having this discussion."

"He can't know the current location of all the cash in the country." Steve replied with a somewhat devious grin as he pushed a wad of notes into Sherry's hand.

"Steve...I can't pay you back for this." Sherry said softly, shaking her head. "It wouldn't be right to take it either. I have nothing. Wesker's frozen the only assets that I had."

"I don't want paying back." Steve replied honestly. "There are only so many dirty magazines a guy can buy with all that money." He teased.

Sherry cracked a genuine smile at this. "Well at least you admit to it. I've met guys that swear they don't." She shook her head. "Hell, I bet even the great Albert Wesker does it."

Steve wrinkled up his nose at the very thought. "Nah. I'll bet he gets his rocks off with the monsters in the lab." He snorted.

Sherry threw back her head and laughed at this thought. Though the back of her mind whispered to her that she wouldn't mind being the monster that Wesker got his rocks off with.

It was almost like Steve knew Sherry was thinking this, and his smile turned sad. He somehow knew this wasn't the first time a woman had been nice to him, while being enamoured with someone else. "I'll be outside when you're ready." He told Sherry softly.

Sherry came out a little while later, wearing a pair of jeans and a short t-shirt with a girly skull on the front. She looked much more comfortable. She even gave a deep sigh when she came outside and turned for Steve to look at her. "Well?" She asked him, beginning to blush. "What do you think?"

Steve smiled, his fingers reaching out for her, until he remembered that she could never be his. "See, I knew it... You look beautiful no matter what." He told her with a somewhat sad smile.

"You and I should go to a bar." Sherry said suddenly, seeing just the one a few building away. She grabbed his wrist and pulled him with her. "It's amateur night. I think I just figured out how to make you that money back."

"Please tell me amateur night isn't what I think it is..." Steve groaned, not sure how he was supposed to behave himself if he was filled with beer.

"That's exactly what it is!" Sherry said with a laugh, dragging him through the door. She no longer cared if Wesker caught them. In fact, at the moment, she'd forgotten all about him.

Steven took a deep breath, not even realising how tightly he was holding Sherry's hand. "I dot know... What if I get jealous of other people looking at you?" He told her.

"Oh please." Sherry snorted. "I keep telling you, I'm no looker. You'll probably get sick just looking at me." She told him, stopping at the sign in sheet. "Got a pen?"

"If I said I didn't, would that really stop you?" He asked, smiling slightly as he held up a pen, though didn't hand it over. "What if I said... You can have my pen, if I can have a kiss?"

Sherry gave him what he asked for, a kiss on the cheek. When she stepped back, she was holding the pen. "Just you wait." She said as she handed it back and turned to follow the woman that was motioning to her. "I'm going to get you your money back plus some. You'll be able to buy enough dirty magazines to...please an army." She added with a laugh, disappearing behind the curtain.

Steve watched Sherry leave with a rather forlorn expression. He already had a good idea that every man here was going to fall over himself once they saw her.

And Steve was right. But it wasn't just Sherry's looks that had their tongues wagging. It seemed that the slender girl was a master at her craft. It was what she promised but didn't show that had the men howling in their seats.

Steve had stopped watching Sherry. He was staringndown into the glass of amber liquid he had been knocking back. It was troubling him, this feeling of wanting a woman, despite knowing he could never have her. It was entirely too familiar, and he didn't understand why.

Sherry found herself wishing that Albert Wesker had seen her. But this lasted only for a moment or two and she was all but beating herself up for the thought.
She was acting like a child and she couldn't afford to. She'd never been able to be a child. Why start now?
"I have an idea." She said as she came to sit down beside Steve. "What if we...just didn't go back to that place?"

"He would never let you go." Steve breathed, though there was hope in his eyes that always seemed to be a little too green to be normal.

"He hasn't missed me yet." Sherry pointed out. "And he certainly wasn't looking for me before. I'm not worried about him at all."

"You should be." Steve warned, grabbing hold of Sherry's hands between his own. "Don't think he won't hurt you just because of the way he feels about you."

"Oh please." Sherry snorted, rolling her eyes at this. "You're missing the picture here, Steve. He sees me as a baby. Nothing else. He's been enjoying holding all of it over my head. I'm not afraid of him and I'm not going back. It's not like he'll care. Now come on. I've got enough left over to rent us a car. Or hell...we can steal one!"

Steve was shaking his head. "You still don't get it, do you? He brought you there to breed you! He wants to mod the virus in your genes, with the one in his own!"

"Well then certainly, fuck that." Sherry hissed, yanking Steve to his feet. "I should have known...the bastard can breed his ass for all I care!" She stomped into the parking lot, surveying the cars without letting go of his hand. "I'm not a cow...or some....some pedigree dog! It didn't work with my dad and it damn sure won't work with him!"

Steven didt mind being taken along for the ride, but he also knew no place on earth would safe. Not even Antarctica, and he wasn't even sure where that thought had come from. "Where will we go? We may as well think big, right?" He finally breathed.

"No. We think small." Sherry muttered, heading for a beaten down looking station wagon that had clearly seen better days. "We think hair changes..." As she spoke her hair went from black to a soft red. "We think small town with no computers and a bar. Wesker hates bars. We'll be fine if we stay off the grid."

Steven reached out, his fingers gently stroking through Sherry's silken hair. "How did you do that?" He breathedm allowing his fingers to linger within the scarlet tresses.

"I don't want to talk about it." Sherry muttered, yanking her hair out of his fingers. "Get in." She opened the door and motioned to the passenger side. "As soon as I wire it we're gone."
