So slow to catch on

Jill gave Leon a little push, then smiled. "Believe me, these things can last days." She assured him. "Besides, I want the chance to grill you myself."
"You doubt my suitability as a mother?" Claire asked thinly, folding her arms across her chest.

"Wait..." Chris was sure his head was going to explode. Far too many things were happening all around him. He caught Jill's arm before she could pass him. "We're not going in there." He snarled, glaring at Leon as the other man gave him a hurt look.

"You really want to yell this out on the doorstep?" Jill asked in a hushed whisper. "You need to calm down, both of you, before you say something you'll regret."

"I'm not the one who has anything to regret." Chris hissed, turning his gaze back to his sister. "I'm not the one so ashamed of my boyfriend that I have to lie about him. You know you're wrong, Claire. That's why you've been shaking up here with him."

"Ashamed? That's what you think?" Claire asked, her heart breaking to hear this. "I was afraid you would react the way you are doing right now! You smother me, Chris! You would never have let me be with Leon if I had told you the truth from the start!"

"Because I know exactly what that bastard is capable of." Chris snarled, pointing a finger at Leon. As if they didn't already know who he was referring to. "I didn't raise you to be so blind."

"But it was okay for you to ignore everyone, and everything, around you, in your search for Jill?" Claire replied coldly. "I'm happy she really is okay, but you were gone, Chris! Leon was the one who helped me with my grief too!"

"Your grief?" Chris roared, his face turning an odd shade of red. "What the hell would you know about grief?! Jill was mine! She was my life. What the hell did you really lose?"

Claire actually took a step back this time, her sapphire eyes glancing over to the slender blonde woman, then back up at her big brother. "If she was your life, why were you going to dump her when your last mission was over? Too bad Wesker literally beat you to it, huh?" She spat, before turning to flee indoors.

Chris reached for his sister but all he got was a fist full of Leon's shirt. The other man had put himself in between the siblings, making it no secret he was going to protect Claire at all costs.
The cost this time was his nose. Chris' fist slammed into it with a sickening crack. A lesser man would have swayed and probably fallen. Leon stayed on his feet, his eyes never leaving Chris.

Claire froze the moment she heard the crack. It was her fault, all of it. She should have stood up to her brother sooner. "Stoppit!" She shouted, whirling round to again place herself between Chris and Leon. "This is Leon's home, you have no right coming here and assaulting him!"

Chris somehow managed to stop himself from striking another blow. His hand shook as he balled it into a fist at his side. With shame he realized he'd nearly hit his sister. It wasn't the first time he'd come this close. "I...I'm sorry." He whispered finally, turning his back on the pair and heading for the car. "I guess...I just need to let you make this mistake on your own, kiddo."

"Why do you assume I'm making a mistake?" Claire called after him. "I love Leon, isn't that all that should matter?"
Jill was already by Chris' side, squeezing his hand tightly. "Chris, don't leave it like this. You know neither of you meant the things you said."

Chris looked down at Jill, trying to take in every word she said. For some reason they sounded like nothing but gibberish. He couldn't understand a word of it.
Leon's shoulders slumped and he gave a watery sigh, cringing as he saw the blood that sprayed away from him. "I'm sorry." He whispered to Claire. "This is all my fault."

Jill took Chris' other hand and forced him to come to a halt and face her. "We knew things would be hard, right?" She breathed. "Every family has problems like this." She added, suddenly smiling slightly. "Funny how we can handle biohazards, yet family relations are a mystery, huh?"
Claire shook her head, already tearing a section of her t shirt away to wipe at Leon's bleeding nose. "I should have told him everything from the start... It's all my fault."

Chris didn't answer. Instead he simply shrugged. "I need a bath." He grunted after a long moment. "And...if she's not pregnant...my real name is Albert Wesker."

Leon rested his fingers over Claire's and smiled. "I wonder where he go the idea you were pregnant?"

"Chris... I'm sorry I even joked about it." Jill replied, though she was glancing over her shoulder to Leon and Claire, suddenly she was uncertain what the truth was too.

Claire merely smiled at Leon. "I guess we'll never know the answer to that one." She replied. "Does you're nose feel broken?"

"I'm glad you did." Chris said darkly, opening the passenger door for her. "It gave me a chance to see that my sister is never going to change. She's only out to make herself happy. I should have never forgotten that."

Leon nodded. "Yeah...I'll have to break it back once I get in the shower." He muttered, his fingers tightening over hers. "How about that breakfast you promised me?"

"Chris, you're not being fair." Jill replied with a frown. "Claire has spent too long living up to everyone else's standards, doesn't she deserve to finally have a little slice of something to call her own?"

Claire frowned, slender fingers gently touching Leon's once perfect nose. "He shouldn't have hit, you did nothing wrong." She whispered.

Chris shook his head. "Just because Wesker's dead doesn't mean all this is over. Now is not the time for babies. God only knows what could happen to them. To Leon...and where does that leave Claire? We just thought the whole Steve thing was bad. I can only imagine how this one will end."

Leon laughed and then groaned as the simple facial movement felt like it was going to tear his face apart. "Shouldn't have been a jerk. It was my fault."

"Then where does that leave us?" Jill asked quietly. "You don't want Claire forming any attachments, in case something happens, then what? You would rather she spend her life alone, rather than lose someone she loves? The same logic could be applied to us."

"You just don't have the jerk Jean, my sweet little boy scout." Claire replied, finally smiling a little. "I don't know of anyone else who gets their nose broken, and comes out thinking THEY were the jerk."

"It's already happened to me and I know what it feels like." Chris reminded her. "It won't be happening again. But Jill...you don't understand something..." Chris didn't finish this as he got back into the car and rested his head against the steering wheel.

Leon laughed and then groaned again. "You're doing that on purpose!" He all but wailed. Before he could say more, the phone he kept on his person at all times began to ring.

"Then make me understand." Jill pleaded, her slender fingers gently stroking through Chris' hair as his head rested against the wheel.

Claire was quick to lose her smile. She hated that phone, as it always meant Leon was being called away somewhere.

"No. It's not important anymore." Chris breathed, closing his eyes tightly. He didn't move from the driveway, something was telling him to stay put though he wasn't sure why.

Leon made a quick motion of snapping his nose back into place, grunting through the pain instead of screaming like he truly wanted to. Then he was answering his phone, already looking rather grim.

"Clearly it is important, if it's got you acting like this." Jill replied firmly. "Please Chris, you can't keep me out of the loop if I'm going to help you."

Claire had already left Leon to his phone call, retreating indoors to flop down onto the couch. There she started flicking through the tv channels, though didn't really see any of them.

"I understand." Leon said finally, snapping his phone closed. He headed toward the front door without another word and against his better judgement, he found himself knocking on Chris' window.
The other man lifted his head, his eyes somewhat red rimmed. "What now, asshole?" Chris snarled.
"Your lab...the one Rebecca Chambers ran...it's exploded...the reports are that there aren't any survivors but for some reason or another...there's bio-monsters climbing out of the mess. That's zombies too."

"What?" There was a look of pure horror on Jill's face upon hearing this news. "No, you have to be mistaken!" She insisted. "It was a different lab, it has to be!"

Leon shook his head. "They're certain." He said grimly. "Chris, Jill...would you two please come inside? I want to tell Claire...I know her, she'll want to go. This way we can all come up with a levelheaded plan."
Chris looked toward Jill, for once he wasn't sure what to do. All he truly wanted was for her to give Leon an answer.

Jill nodded her head. "Leon's right, we need to figure this thing out together, no use banging heads when we could be helping people."

"I don't want Claire to go." Chris said, not yet making an effort to get back out of the car.
Leon actually laughed at this remark, though he was fairly sure it would get him hit again. "Are you going to be the one to tell her that?"
"Right after I break your neck." Chris snarled. "Then she'll have to stay around for your funeral." Leon glanced at Jill, knowing Chris meant what he said. It would up to her to talk the beast down.
"I'll go tell Claire." He muttered, giving the two of them time alone.
