Night and Day

Katie Rivers stood on the bleachers, staring at the evening sky. She hated night. Darkness gave her a sense of unwelcome anxiousness that she would much rather ignore. She was a bubbly person filled with light and joy that was hard to surpress. 
"There they come." Ann Talley, another of the cheerleaders whispered with glee. She was talking about the night students, of course, those that only showed up at night. 
It was the first night of the year and all the students were gathering on the field for the annual "meet and greet" that kicked off the year. 
Katie stood on tiptoe on the bleacher to see, frowning at the sudden cloud of darkness that was preventing her from seeing anything at all. The night students were a mystery to everyone. They avoided the day class and no one really knew why. Rumor had it it was because they were from rich families. At least ones that were richer than all the others. 
The little blonde was looking so hard to see she slipped on the cold metal and lost her balance. The ground behind her began to come up fast and she shut her eyes. There wasn't even enough time to scream. This was going to hurt.

Raife Saunders scowled at the giggling girls that were watching the night students arrive. "Stuck up and stupid." He growled, not sure if he meant the girls or the night class. He hated them both. The cheerleaders were whores and hr had no words for the night class. This wasn't his first year with them. He knew something wasn't right. He just wished someone would listen. 
Sighing deeply he pulled out a pack of cigarettes and lit one. He was bound to get in trouble sooner or later. Why not start the year off right? 
He watched Katie Rivers as he took a drag and wondered where her sister was. Probably under the bleachers tying shoelaces together he concluded with a laugh. When Katie fell and hit that cotton ball head of hers, he'd know for sure...

"He owes me a favor. Drop my name and he will be hard pressed to refuse." Alma said tapping at her elbows. "I must go now. He calls me. I will stall him as long as I can. But if you waste too much time I will be forced to hurt the kitten. Not that I am not tempted. You deserve it. The darkness knows you do for what you did." 
She put down an amulet on the table the desk, her fingers lingering again on the marred wood. "Use this and say his name. That's how the witch does it." the demoness said, disappearing as if she'd never been there at all.

"Well shit..." Tobias muttered as he picked up the amulet and turned it over in his fingers. "This better work, Julian, you mongrel." He added, not thinking it would be enough to call the wolf. Katie getting hurt was the last thing he wanted, and if not meant swallowing his pride to make a deal with the wolf and the demon, then so be it.

Julian appeared in Tobias' office, half clothed and his hair a wild mess. When he saw where he was he began to snarl and show his teeth, knowing he had no weapons to fight against the vampire with.

Tobias looked the other man over with a rather judgmental glance. "Did I interrupt something, dog?" He asked with an amused smirk, quite aware of what it was he had most likely pulled Julian away from.

"A nap." Julian snarled, glancing at the amulet he held in his hand. "Where did you get that, vampire? That belongs to the headmaster of the school you pretend to go to so you can feed on virgins."

Tobias glanced down at the amulet, then back at Julian as he made a show of breathing in the air around the other man. "You would know a great deal about virgins, wouldn't you?"

"Nothing, actually. They are far from interesting to me." Julian shrugged. "I'll ask again, vampire. What was your reasoning for calling me here when I was so busy...sleeping. you can't really think I'm going to do anything for you." He added with a snort.

"But you would do something for Alma, wouldn't you?" Tobias challenged. "Or the little virgin you stole away from here under the pretense of being her mentor?"

"You stupid son of a..." Julian took a swing at Tobias. The last thing he wanted was to have Alma throw her hat in. He didn't need her reminding him that he owed her a favor. "Damn it...." he sighed, backing off. "What's the matter?"

"Jack took Katie." Tobias replied bluntly. "He, and your guild, want her blood and will kill anyone in their way to get it. Is that something you really want?"

"It isn't my concern really. As I hear it her blood has some interesting qualities to it. The guild might need it. After what your bunch did to one of their own it would serve you right." Julian snorted.

"And your girl? You think she will sit back and let her sister come to harm?" Tobias asked. "Are you certain you want to start a war with the both of them caught in the middle?"

"One of them I could care less about." Julian hissed. "What does Alma want? She does realize she is calling in her one and only favor? After that my debt to her and Brock is paid. Yours on the other hand..." he looked the vampire over for what seemed like the hundredth time and shook his head. "And you wonder why we call you a monster."

"Help me, or I'll finish what I started with your little girlfriend." Tobias hissed, in no mood for nice. The longer he waited, the more chance there was that Jack would hurt Katie.

This unfortunately backfired for Tobias. Julian jumped on him, the two men landing hard on the ground. The claws were out in a second and swiping across the vampire's face.. "try that again and I will kill you!" He roared."

"My, such weakness from the mighty hunter. She tasted so very... Sweet. " Tobias sneered even as his face healed. "She's as good as dead any way of you don't help. You think she won't defend Katie with her life?" He added, his fingers digging roughly into Julian's stomach.

Julian gritted his teeth as pain tore through him. "I doubt anyone would defend your little freak. She's a monster just like you. Don't threaten me. I could care less about your vampire drama!"

"Funny, your freak has been all alone the whole time I've been at this school!" Tobias spat, his fingers twisting the flesh now. "Katie won the adoration of everyone with no more than a glance!"

"That's because she's the school whore! What do you expect?!" Julian hissed. "Everyone knows the story of how she screwed half the football team!"

"Ebony is so fucking strange even her own mother can't love her!" Tobias snarled, finally pulling away and getting to his feet from where they had tumbled. "This was a mistake. Alma was so fucking wrong about you!"

"I told you I would help. But only for Alma." Julian hissed. "What did you offer her anyway? She's not going back to that insane idea that she can bring back her lover is she?" He asked, getting to his feet and shaking off like a wet dog."

"I don't need to know, so I didn't ask." Tobias replied rather evasively. "Just tell me where your dear friend Jack will have taken Katie."

Julian smiled, almost as if he knew something Tobias didnt. "I will not go without taking Ebony with me." He said. 

Katie could barely breathe. She woke up to find herself in complete darkness, something she was very afraid of. She began to shout for anyone who could hear her.

Truthfully, Tobias didn't want Ebony anywhere near him. He had never liked her all the time they had been students, and he had never been able to explain why. Even now, it went beyond the revelation that she was a hunter, like there was something more. "Very well. Just keep her out of my way."

Jack was pleased with himself. He could heAR the young woman calling for help. "Go ahead, darling. Shout all you like. No one will hear you." He purred. His fingers lingered over a lever to his left. All it would take was one pull and her blood would be drained away. Then he would befree to drink whatever he would like from it.

Inside the records hall Enony had fallen asleep hunched over a pile of books. That was of course until she swore she heard her sister screaming whilst trapped in a dark place. The younger girl woke with a start, her grey eyes wide as though expecting to be trapped herself.

Jack had grown tired of being the good guy a long time ago. As he sat now, a cup of glittering liquid in his hand he smiled. Being the good guy had gotten him nowhere.  It was time he paid everyone back for the things he had suffered. 
The first drink burned like fire. The rest went down like butter. He imagined every last drop he gained from this young woman would be sweeter. Her pleas would soon grow weaker. Even the demon, Alma,  seemed to be ignoring them, her own blood lust settling down.

Tobias and Julian were outside one of the smaller rooms that housed the guilds many records. Ebony was inside, but for some reason they hadn't yet entered. "What's wrong, dog? Pissed off the little girl?" He snorted.

Julian raised an eyebrow. "You're or desperate or anything are you?" He muttered, his fingers on the doorknob that separated them. "She might not want to come at all."

"I don't want to be here at all! You're the one who insisted you wouldn't go without her!" Tobias huffed rather childishly.
It was as Tobias and Julian were snarling at each other that the door suddenly flung open. Ebony had decided she needed to see Katie right away, and was far less than pleased to see both Julian and Tobias standing there.
