So slow to catch on

Jill gave Leon a little push, then smiled. "Believe me, these things can last days." She assured him. "Besides, I want the chance to grill you myself."
"You doubt my suitability as a mother?" Claire asked thinly, folding her arms across her chest.

"Then you really are dense, even for a blonde." Jill replied, narrowing her sky coloured eyes slightly when Sherry attempted to block her way.

"You used to be a blonde too so I wouldn't talk." Sherry snorted, scowling at Jill. "If you really forgot who you are...then you must really just be a bitch. Leave that door alone. I'll tell him you're here when he wakes up."

"I would never choose to be a blonde." Jill shot back defensively. "Chris drove all day to come see his friend. I seriously doubt Ark would mind being woken up."

"Well I mind." Sherry snarled, crossing her arms over her chest as she stood glaring at the other woman. "He hasn't slept in days. You two can wait." She added with a hiss, her eyes flashing an odd red.

Jill saw the red, but was wise enough not to question Sherry herself about it. "If he isn't your boyfriend, or even your lover's what do you care?" Jill replied, mimicking Sherry and folding her arms across her chest.

"Because I care about him!" Sherry growled, stomping her foot. "Now leave him alone or I'll remove you both and tell him you dropped dead!"

"Go ahead." Jill challenged, rather unwisely. "Chris and I will not be told to wait around like some lackeys!"

"Oh yes you will!" Sherry stepped up to where she was all but touching Jill. It wasn't lost on her that she had to almost tiptoe to meet her eye to eye. "You will wait and you will like it!"

Jill took a step back, merely so she could press her palm to Sherry's forehead and hold her at arms length. "I could just step around you, midget, you do realise that, don't you?"

"You could..." Sherry hissed, knowing she was stepping into a childish act as she swung her arms out in front of her. "But you wouldn't like what happens to your own boyfriend if you did." She warned.

"I seriously doubt Chris has a fear of little girls." Jill scoffed, her brow arching in amusement when Sherry began swinging arms that were much shorter than Jill's own out in a bid to strike her.

"I'm not an ordinary little girl!" Sherry roared, the walls around them rattling with her fury.
"Jill, babe." Chris rested his fingers on his lovers arm and shook his head. "It's all right. We can wait. We'll walk down to the beach and relax for a bit. It's not that big of a deal."

Jill let go of Sherry and sighed heavily. "But we drove all this way just so you could see your friend!" She protested. "It's insulting to keep us waiting."

"I've done it to Ark before, babe." Chris told her gently. "And anyway, I haven't seen a good beach in ages. I need a moment or two to take a deep breath. How about you?"

Jill huffed quietly, though it was clear she had already given in. "It just doesn't feel right..." She grumbled, though her slender hand slipped easily into Chris'.

"Things don't anymore." Chris sighed as he gently squeezed her hand and pulled her out into the front yard with him. "But would you look at that view." He breathed, turning her to face the morning sun as it began to rise over the ocean front. "It's beautiful. Though...not as beautiful as you."

Jill blushed slightly at the compliment, smiling as she swatted gently at Chris' chest. "It must be good for you, knowing you can recycle your old lines on me." She teased.

"Actually that's working well for me." Chris teased in return, sliding his fingers through hers and pulled her forward towards the beach.

"So back when we were both cops... Who made the first move?" She asked curiously as they moved closer to the ocean. With her memories gone, Jill had still found herself inexplicably drawn to Chris the moment she had met him outside the hospital.

"You did." Chris chuckled, resting his fingers on the small of her back as they crossed the last sidewalk and stepped into the sand. "You told me I either slept with you or left you alone but you couldn't stand my teasing anymore."

Jill couldn't keep herself from grinning at this thought. "So... I basically commanded you into my bed?" She asked, her brow arching in amusement. She also made the assumption they had made it back to her apartment at all.

"Like it was really that big of a deal." Chris laughed. "I already had half my clothes off before you'd finished speaking and we weren't even out of the building yet."

Jill laughed gently, her head resting against Chris' shoulder as they walked. "I wish I remembered." She breathed. "But... You're still a tease now, so I guess nothing has really changed." She added with a playful smirk.

"Alot changed." Chris admitted. "I became nearsighted and depressed and afraid of losing you. And you know what? That fear is what nearly cost me you....more times than I can count. It seems like one of these days...I'm not going to get another chance."

"Then maybe you should stop living in the future, and take a peek at the present." Jill suggested gently. "Even if I don't remember anything, I know I am not made of glass, so you shouldn't worry about losing me. I mean hell... I woke up in a morgue, what does that say?"

"That I let my guard down....again." Chris whispered, letting go of Jill to sit on a bench and begin pulling off his boots. "If you remembered anything, babe, you'd know that's a fact."

Jill sat down next to Chris, worry in her cobalt eyes. "Or maybe you didn't let your guard down enough?" She suggested gently. "Worrying about me won't do anything other than keep you at a distance from me, Chris." She added. "I'm a big girl, and sometimes... It would be nice to take care of you, instead."

"You always say that." Chris said, making a show of inspecting his boots. "But Jill...you were alone when you were attacked. I let you go alone and look what happened. I was being selfish. I refused to leave Claire's baby and...it cost you as it always does..."

" I was picking up some flowers, no one could have expected it to turn out the way it did." Jill replied, her eyes growing wide when she realised she had just picked a memory out of nowhere.

Chris nodded, a ghost of a smile on his lips. "I swore to myself I wouldn't leave you alone. Especially not after we found out that...that Wesker...is still alive. I have no doubt who did this, Jill. I just...I know it's all my fault."
