Thicker than Water

Alex Chambers stood on the helicopter landing pad his fingers pressed to his forehead to block out the morning sun. He was dancing from one foot to the other, unable to hide his excitement.
"I see them!" He shouted back to his mother, who was standing near the entrance with a medical team. None of them knew what kind of shape their heroes would return to them in but Alex didn't seem to care. Already he was hopping up and down waving at the chopper as it drew closer. He cheered when Chris Redfield waved to him and repeated the action when Jill Valentine did the same. But as the helicopter touched down his smile began to fade. Not everyone he'd hoped to see was stepping out.
"What happened?" Rebecca Chambers soon came to stand beside her son, her lips set in a thin line as she looked from Chris to Jill. "Where is Parker?" She'd done her best to keep herself from saying this man's name first but she couldn't seem to help herself. "Where's Jessica?" She added, hoping this would make for a decent cover up.

"Actually, that was why I was calling. Fucking with your wife was just for fun. I'm going to drop by in a few hours just to say hello. I thought I'd give you a heads up. Want to give Chris a call for me?" Jessica purred. "And Parker? You really weren't a bad fuck. It's too bad your little bitch will only get to have you once."

"Chris will shoot you without question, and now so will I." Parker vowed, then quickly hung up. Without a word to Alex he stormed into the bedroom he shared with Rebecca and started throwing her clothing into a bag. He had to get them both out of here. If Jessica really did know where they lived, then so could anyone.

"Don't you dare touch my stuff!" Rebecca shouted at him, tossing his own clothing at him. "You're lucky I don't shoot you on site! I am so pissed right now I could strangle you!"

"This was her intention!" Parker growled. "She wants to divide us, so we're weaker! She could be working for anybody! Which means she probably knows who Alex really is!" Chris had been unable to confirm one way or the other whether wesker was dead, given that like Jill, they hadn't found his body. This forever made Parker nervous, knowing from past reports that this man was like a cockroach. Personally, he had never believed Albert wesker to be dead.

"I cant believe you are going to try and use that excuse!" rebecca shouted. "I thought things had changed. I thought we were trying...you have no idea how hard it's been for me to allow even the smallest touch. And you... You have the nerve to lie to me about believing marriage is sacred?! You really think I'm stupid don't you?"

"I think you're a fool if you believe anything that woman says." Parker replied bluntly, zipping up the bag he had been stuffing.

"I don't even know who that woman is and frankly I don't care." Rebecca hissed, grabbing for her bag. "Don't act like an ass because you got caught!"
Alex was listening on the other side of the door, crouched down where he could see the two of them. He knew not to think things were better. The moment he saw how close they were he knew something would ruin it.

"That was Jessica!" Parker shot back. "The woman who nearly got me killed!" He added, stomping around the room to gather up the weapons he kept at the house.

"I am not leaving!" Alex shouted, hitting the door hard enough to splinter it. It hung there on the top hinge swinging pitifully. "I am happy here and I don't care who comes! I won't leave!"
Rebecca sighed deeply, her head hurting. "Alex, don't do this right now. Just...go to your room."
"I will not!" Alex shot back, glaring at his mother as he crossed his arms over his chest.

"Alex, please... Don't you have homework due tomorrow?" Parker asked, trying to calm his anger a little now he knew their son was listening.

"You sound like you're pleading with me." Alex hissed, looking at Parker disdainfully. "How pathetic."
It was the tone of his voice and the look in his eyes. Rebecca slammed her hands over her ears and shut her eyes, her shoulders shaking. In that moment he reminded her so much of Wesker it felt like her insides were being ripped out. It brought all those nasty memories to the surface as if they'd never been pushed into the darkness at all.

Parker didn't like this side of Alex either. "Alright, get out of here and go do you damn homework!" He all but snarled, knowing how much Rebecca hated it when their son talked like this. "And then get to bed, you've been staying up far too late recently!"

Alex gave Parker a nasty sneer, one that would have done his true father proud. "Perhaps he was right about you. You are rather crass."
"Alex Luciani!" Rebecca suddenly roared, shoving to her feet. She gave her son a slap on the bottom that probably made his teeth rattle. "You will apologize right now! Don't you ever talk to Parker that way again, do you hear me?!"
Whatever she had done seemed to do the trick. All at once big tears were sliding down Alex's cheeks and he was his old self again. "I'm...I'm sorry, dad." He whispered.

Parker crouched down and held his arms out to his son. "Kiddo... You can't talk like that. It upsets your mom and me, okay?" He breathed, wishing he understood why Alex had such sudden and nasty turns.

Alex clung to his father for what seemed like eternity, his face buried in the large man's hair. "I am sorry." He breathed. "I just...I don't want us to be unhappy. This sucks, dad."

"Don't worry about us. We're tough, right?" Parker replied, closing his eyes as he hugged his son. "Everything will work out, I promise. Now go on, I meant it about the homework."

"We can't leave, Parker." Rebecca whispered, already going about putting her clothing back in the correct drawers. "We'll just have to face whatever problem comes at us when it comes. We can't keep asking Alex to give up everything."

Chris sighed heavily as he reached out to knock on the Luciani family's door. He didn't want to do this but he had to. He had to have Rebecca's help in Africa. If she couldn't find out what Triell was up to there, he'd never see if the rumor Jessica had told him was true. He wasn't about to let anything keep him from finding out if it was truth that Jill was still alive.

Parker was about to argue his point when he heard the knocking on the front door. For a moment he didn't move, not even to breathe. Jessica had claimed she would be calling round. "Stay here." He breathed, pulling his gun from his pants as he stalked to the front door. Without checking who it was first, he pulled the door open, greeting Chris ith a gun shoved in his face.

"Whoa!" Chris held his hands up, for some reason unable to keep from laughing. "I know we haven't been on good terms lately but geez, Parker. You don't have to blow my brains out."

Parker narrowed his eyes, glancing behind Chris before pulling him inside and slamming the door. "Jessica co tacked me." He told Chris bluntly. "She claims to know where we live and is coming round. I wanted Rebecca and Alex gone, but..." He sighed and ran his fingers through his hair. "Things aren't exactly perfect right now."

"Jessica is being detained at the headquarters." Chris said, hoping that Parker would put his gun away. "a rookie let her make a phone call. Damn ass gave her his phone. Rebecca was n the contact list..."

Parker groaned at this, having to sit down before he fell down. "Who was the dumb ass who gave her his own phone?" He growled.

Chris ran a hand through his hair, laughing sheepishly. "she said I owed her one." he admitted. "I dont see what the big deal is anyway. It's not like you and Rebecca are sleeping together. And don't tell me youve gone without for nearly four years."

There was raw fury in Parker's eyes as he looked over at Chris. Without warning he was on the other man, tackling him roughly to the ground. "Unlike you, I would never flaunt my conquests in front of the woman I love!"

Chris was in a nasty mood, it was evident in his sneer. "so Jessica wasn't lying." he snorted. "you're no better than I was. No matter how high and mighty you act."

Parker punched the other man with an angry roar. "It wouldn't surprise me if you've been screwing around wi that whore all this time!"

Chris was laughing. Pain was the only thing that made him feel alive anymore. "does Alex know what a whore you are? How about Becky? Does she know youve been out getting laid instead of working late?"

Parker punched Chris again, then took to grabbing a handful of hair and slamming the other mans head onto the floor. "Just because you fucked up and cost Jill her life, doesn't give you the right to fuck mine over too!"

"did you think she wouldn't find out?" Chris asked, spitting blood in the othe mans face. "fucking husband and rather of the year aren't you? So much better... You deserve to lose them!"

Parker punched Chris again, then got to his feet, merely to kick him in the ribs. "Jill died because you were weak!" He wanted Chris to hurt as much he did right then, and he knew Jill was the only way to do that.
