So slow to catch on

Jill gave Leon a little push, then smiled. "Believe me, these things can last days." She assured him. "Besides, I want the chance to grill you myself."
"You doubt my suitability as a mother?" Claire asked thinly, folding her arms across her chest.

"Leon could die!" Claire roared. "All just so you could claim childish vengeance on me?!" Before any more could be said, she slammed her brother as hard as she could. "As far as I am concerned, Leon and this baby are the only family I have now."

It took Chris several long minutes to recover from this. After a moment he swallowed hard. "I sent Leon to find Rebecca so that I could get back on my feet and leave you two in peace. Don't you think I feel bad enough hanging around here when I know you hate me being here?"

"I didn't hate you being here, you were family!" Claire shot back. "But what you did... I don't think I can ever forgive that. It was something that I should have known!" She added, a hand subconsciously rubbing her belly as fear crept throguh her; it was entirely possible Leon would not come back. "Get out Chris. Take your monster girlfriend with you."

"How do you think I felt when you lied to me about where and who you were living with?" Chris hissed. "Leon will be here in the morning. If he decides to, he can kick us out. You just shut up and go be a bitch somewhere else."

"You still don't get it, do you? I only needed to lie about that... Because you treat me like a child. When you found out the truth, you punched Leon. The very reason I was keeping our relationship a secret from you!" Claire retorted, then left before Chris could get the last word in.

Chris spluttered a few minutes before he finally managed to get himself under control. He knew she was right. He just didn't want to admit it out loud.
The next morning, Leon arrived with a heavy sack flung over his shoulder. He looked exhausted and it was all he could do to simply toss the sack onto the couch beside Jill. "I had to knock her out." He whispered. "She wouldn't even listen to me."

Jill gently peeled the sack back, almost wishing it wasn't Rebecca in there. "I'm sorry it had to happen this way." She whispered, though it wasn't clear if she spoke to Leon, or Rebecca's unconscious form. "Claire and Chris... Aren't speaking." She continued. "Claire wants us gone, blaming Chris for sending you away."

Leon nodded as if he'd expected as much. "Jill...there's something you need to know. I wanted to tell you before anyone else was up. Namely Chris. Wesker...it seems he's not dead. Again."

Jill didn't quite know how to react to this. However, as she was formulating a response, her sapphire eyes would give her away. Leon would be able to clearly see the raw terror in their haunted depths. "You saw him with your own eyes?" She asked finally, her voice cracking slightly.

Leon nodded, giving Jill a sorrowful look. "He was...it was the oddest thing...he was sitting in a restaurant, arguing with Rebecca."

Jill was quick to frown and shake her head. "A restaurant?" She ached, as though she was having trouble following this. "And Rebecca was what, eating lunch with him?" She scoffed.

"Looked like breakfast." Leon explained, dropping down in the chair across from Jill. "We may be facing something much bigger than we first thought. He was actually smiling at her."

Jill glanced down to where Rebecca was still unconscious next to her. Her mind was casting backwards, looking the signs that should have been so obvious. "She... Was in love with him right from the start..." She breathed, as the horrible realisation dawned on her. Suddenly Jill was on her feet, as though physically unable to be too close to Albert Wesker's lover.

"Wait...calm down..." Leon was on his feet, trying to make sure Jill kept control of her emotions. "You know Wesker better than anyone...he may have been using her. It's not like he wouldn't do that..."

Jill was shaking her head again, her fists balled as she too tried to keep control. "Even if he was using her, that doesn't deny that SHE was in love with HIM!" Jill hissed. "Even after everything he has done!"

"Maybe it's not so bad as all that..." Leon said, holding up his hands. "Jill...let's wait to speak to her before we get upset. It won't help anything..."

"It's too late for that..." Jill warned, her eyes more black than blue now as she turned her gaze back to Leon.

"Jill!" Leon shouted, no longer caring about being quiet. "Don't. Please...Damn it I shouldn't have told you." He was quick to stand in between her and Rebecca. "Please calm down. Please?"

"She betrayed us all!" Jill insisted. "She could be leading wesker right to us!" She added, her chest heaving as she continuedntostrugglenwith her emotions.

"No. I'm the one who took her. I've checked her over. There's nothing that will lead him here on her. We're safe as long as we keep her in check." Leon said all this rather quickly, noting that Jill was beginning to lose control of herself. "We are safe, Jill. Listen to me."

"No! Chris isn't safe!" Jill insisted, her worry only for him. "He will try and father her again, and she will just screw him over... Again!"

"Nobody said Rebecca screwed anyone over." Leon reminded Jill. "For all we know she's as much a victim of all this as we are. He might have even done something to her mind like he did you..."

Jill's eyes were pure black now as they narrowed at Leon. "You'll never say that out loud again." She warned him. "It took years of abuse for him to control me!"

"All right. All right." Leon said, holding his hands up in surrender. "Jill...please calm down." He added gently. "Chris is getting up. I can hear him. Calm down before he gets in here. Okay?"
"Jill? Babe? Is everything all right?" Chris called from the hallway.

Jill didn't answer right away. She could feel control slipping away from her, and she knew that was more dangerous to Chris than Rebecca leading wesker right to them. "It's fine... Leon's back." She finally managed to call back to him.

"I'm coming." Chris grunted as he tried to pull himself into the chair. "Leon...go check on Claire....we can talk later."
He didn't really have to tell the other man this. Once Leon was sure Jill was calming down he went into the room he shared with his girlfriend. He undressed rather quickly and laid down behind her, pulling her against him.

Jill was chewing on her thumb nail as she stood staring at Rebecca's unconscious form. This just didn't sit right with her. If Rebecca truly was Wesker's lover... Surely he was going to come looking for her, regardless of whether she was leading him here or not?
Claire stirred slightly as she felt Leon's warm hands gently press against her large belly as he pulled her close. "I've done something stupid..." She breathed after a moment, her hands resting over his.

"He brought her then?" Chris asked, though he could see for himself that she was curled on the couch. "Is she okay? Are you okay?"

"The thing with your brother?" Leon asked, pressing his lips to the back of her neck.

"She seems fine, she hasn't woken up yet." Jill replied, purposefully avoiding answering the question about herself.

Claire closed her eyes again as Leon's lips brushed her skin. "He sent you away Leon... I was so scared." Admitting to being scared was not something either Redfield sibling ever confessed very often.

"Did Leon say where he found her?" Chris asked as he pulled a blanket off the back of the couch and wrapped it around Rebecca. The slender woman wiggled deeper into the warmth.

"I was okay." Leon laughed softly. "You know me. I'm always okay."
