Means to an End

Parker smiled at Chris slightly, patting him on the shoulder. "For what it's worth... I'm sorry too. I was so obsessed with finding Alex... I didn't stop to see the signs. I should have found out Jill was pregnant... Had I known that..." He paused and ran his fingers through his hair. "I do blame myself for what happened to her."

Chris never responded to this. As soon as they were inside the building he muttered something about needing to get Parker certified and left the other man to navigate the holding cells alone.
Jessica, it seemed, had been waiting all day and half the night for him. She visibly brightened when he was let into her cell. "Parker!" She gushed, leaping to her feet to throw her arms around him. "I knew you wouldn't let me down!"

Chris pressed them to his nose, smelling them loudly. "Indeed they are." He purred. "You know I'm kind of glad you washed these. It was getting hard to smell you..." For a long moment he had a hard time swallowing. The memory of what he'd nearly lost forever overwhelmed him.

"I don't dream any more." Rebecca confessed. "They give me some kind of shot to keep me from it. One time I told them I dreamed I had a family and it didn't go well."

Jill knew that look and was already back at Chris' side. "I'm sorry I put you through all that." She breathed. Jill was a little bitter when she thought of the time they had been forced to spend apart. Everything that had ever belonged to her was right here in the house with Chris, whereas she... Had had nothing, not even her ring, to remind her of him. When he wounds were healed a little better, clarity of thought would let her see that being surrounded by 'stuff' of hers... Was probably more painful for Chris than having nothing at all.

"You don't dream?! That's awful!" Parker wailed. "I love to dream... I dream about you sometimes, you know." He added, holding a glass of poured wine out to her. "I dreamed about you even before I came to Tricell... At the risk of sounding creepy."

"I shouldn't have let you die for me." Chris whispered, his eyes still closed. "Every day I have punished myself for that. And I still will. Your pain is and always will be my fault."

Rebecca laughed softly at this, clearly not believing him. "I'm certainly no big boobed Excella." She told him, taking the glass of wine and sipping it slowly. "I'm surprised that you would try to lie to me like that."

"Chris, look at me." Jill had taken his face gently between her hands. "It is our pain now, okay? We both lost something that day; our child."

"It is no lie." Parker replied with a wounded expression. "But what man truly wants a woman who barely conceals her breasts from all the world? It makes me think she must have been a very insecure woman, to crave that kind of attention."

Warm tears slid down Chris' cheeks and over Jill's hands. "Don't...remind me." He choked on the words. "I was doing good..."

Rebecca nodded. "She was always running after this man named Albert Wesker. You should have seen him. I don't see what she saw in him. He was terrifying... I guess sex doesn't care about that sort of thing though..."

"We'll get through this... I'll try harder!" Jill insisted, blaming herself for Chris' pain right then.

Parker had been taking a drink of his wine when Rebecca stated this, and it very nearly shot down his nose. "I guess not!" He laughed.

"No. There's nothing we can do about it and it's not your fault." Chris sighed, pulling Jill against him and holding her tightly. He knew she'd probably push him away but right then he truly needed it.

Rebecca wrinkled her nose and gave him a sheepish smile. "Sorry...too blunt, wasn't it?" She asked, now blushing.

Jill calmed her fears by breathing Chris in deeply, thinking of all the simple pleasures they had shared together. "I'll come." She told him finally. "I'll come to HQ with you."

"Oh no, don't appologise!" Parker insisted, touching her rosy cheek lightly. "I think it wonderful that you speak your mind."

"No. Not if it means hurting you." Chris said, letting go of her and returning to his drawer. "Really, Jill...there's clean underwear in here?" He asked uncertainly, not sure he could believe this.

"Then you won't mind..." She paused, leaning forward to press her lips to his.

Jill sighed heavily and reached into the drawn shoving clean underwear at Chris before storming from the bedroom. She simply didn't know what it was that Chris wanted, and trying to guess was getting tiring.

Parker's fingers had still been against Rebecca's cheek when she kissed him, and no they slid up into her hair, afraid she would pull away and appologise again.

Chris felt rather overwhelmed himself, though he was smiling. Another part of his Jill had surfaced. He couldn't be more pleased.

Rebecca deepened the kiss instead of pulling away. She'd been dying to do this since she'd first met this man. As she did several memories were shooting through her mind like lightning. Parker, his face all but covered in flour above her, her name tumbling past his lips as he laid her down on a table...
All at once she was yanking away from him and holding her chest, a jolt of pure electricity shooting through her. It hurt like hell.

Jill was in the shower as Chris smiled to himself. To hell with his indecision; she WAS going to HQ with him that morning.

"Becca? Babe?" Parker was reaching out, his first instinct to be to rip the device from her chest. He knew it was nothing to do with the car crash, given that she hadn't been in one.

"Jill!" Chris howled, now banging on the bathroom door. "You're hogging all the hot water!" He wailed.

"I'm okay." Rebecca was quick to cover the device on her chest though she wasn't sure why. "I'm sorry. My heart was beating really fast and I think it just scared me." She told him sheepishly.

"Well you shouldn't have taken so long finding underwear! Back in the day you would have just gone commando anyway!" Jill shot back as the water turned off and she stepped out of the shower.

Parker wasn't ready to believe this. "Rebecca, hav you ever tried looking at the records from the crash you were in?"

"Not around Jessica you don't." Chris snorted, preparing to kick the door open. "I learned my lesson with that, thank you very much."

Rebecca made a show of looking through the picnic basket. "Oh look. You got ruebens! Those are my favorites!" She gushed, anything to change the subject.

Jill snorted as she pulled open the door, wearing a towel and using a second to rub her blonde hair. "I knew I didn't like her. She was always looking at you like she was starving, and you were a cartoon ham."

"It seems like I'm good at guessing your favourite things, huh?" Parker relied, fixing Rebecca with a purposeful gaze.

"What?" Chris looked rather confused at the very thought. "No, she just pulled my pants down while we were fighting to detain her. "I have never had so many soldiers commenting on what a great butt I have." He made a face. "It's true but...not another man's business."

The gaze had Rebecca feeling rather lost. She knew there was something else to it. Something that she was missing. "Parker...you look hungry and we're wasting this date talking about me. If you've really been waiting for this for a while then maybe we should do more dating and less...puzzling. Okay?" She asked, holding out her wine glass for him to refill it.

Jill smiled slightly, patting his behind as she moved aside so he could finally make use of the bathroom. "I've done my share of staring." She teased.

Parker filled the glass, though the look in his honey coloured eyes made it clear he was still somewhat deep in thought. He was struggling with his conscience right then; if Rebecca didn't remember her past, then she thankfully also didn't remember what wesker had done to her.

"The showers cold!" Chris wailed as he turned on the water. "You are such a girl!"
He wasn't teasing her anymore as she got into the car with him. He wasn't sure this was a good idea. She knew full well that there were those that were going to ask alot of questions.

"Are you okay?" Rebecca asked him uncertainly, taking the wine glass from him and sipping it slowly. He seemed so lost in thought, maybe he was having memories he didn't understand too...

Jill was silent for the majority of the journey, chewing in her thumb nail as she stared out the window. This was a huge mistake, and she already knew it. What if the BSAA deemed her a danger, and locked her away like they had Jessica?

Parker smiled again and nodded. "I was thinking... Maybe I can smuggle you out of the building?" He asked brightly. "you would love to see the city at night... There is so much to do, and see."

"I can still take you home." Chris whispered, recognizing Jill's anxiety for what it was. He still knew everything about her. How could he have ever forgotten?

"What are you going to do, stuff me in the picnic basket?" Rebecca asked, laughing softly.

Jill shook her head, still chewing on her thumb nail slightly. "I can't out this off forever. Just... Promise you won't let them take me away?"

"I could do... You're small enough." Parker teased. "I was thinking more along the lines of just... Walking out the door?"

"Just promise me you won't say anything." Chris turned this back around on her, his eyes filled with pleading. "Don't give them a reason to think anything. We can keep this between us until the time is right. Okay?"

"Could we really?" Rebecca asked, unable to hide the hope in her eyes. "I'd love to see Italy. I just...I honestly don't remember seeing it before. But...Parker, will you regret this later?"

"Chris, they'll only need to take a blood sample to know that... I'm not exactly human anymore." Jill breathed. "Of I try to stop them taking it... That's when they'll lock me up!"

"Not for a second." Parker replied without hesitation. "I want you to see everything, Rebecca. To... Remember how good life was, .., ah, I mean can be." He added, taking her small hands in his own.

"Then maybe we should take you back home." Chris said with a sigh. "Jill, I'm not going to risk you for anything. Do you understand that?"

Rebecca grinned up at him, her blue eyes sparkling. "I want to remember." She confessed, not sure why she was saying it. "I want to remember you."

"A d what excuse are we going to use for me never returning to active duty?" Jill replied. "I won't hide, Chris. I'm not a coward."

Before he could help himself, Parker had leaned forward, kissing Rebecca just as passionately as he had that day in the kitchen, covered in food.

"You wanted to have a family?" Chris asked her, hoping that this would seem rational to her. "Maybe I can tell them I refuse to let my wife risk her life anymore."

Memories were flooding through Rebecca as she deepened the kiss and guided his large hands to her hips. She was sure they'd been here before. But...why couldn't she bring up the whole memory? Was something keeping her from it?

Jill's blue eyes narrowed slightly at Chris. She knew he didn't mean it, but his words made it sound like she was a meek doormat of a woman who couldn't do a thing without his permission first. "And when no family begins?" She asked, not for a second thinking Chris actually meant for them to start a family... Again.

Parker's hands were moving over Rebecca's pert breasts over the top of her dress as he kissed her. It was then that his fingers brushing up against the device that was attached to her chest. A painful reminder that she wouldn't ever really remember him.

"Why wouldn't it?" Chris asked her, in a way afraid he was going to hear her say that Wesker had stolen that from them too. He wouldn't be surprised to learn that this was indeed the case.

"Don't stop." Rebecca pleaded against his lips, nearly tripping over her own feet as she dragged him down to the blanket with her. "I need you." She remembered saying this to him before. She just didn't know why.

Jill couldn't bring herself to say it out loud. She didn't have confirmation, only Wesker's taunts that he had destroyed the Redfield bloodline when he terminated her child. "My body has been through a lot, Chris... I don't know if it's ready to give a baby the best environment right now..."

Parker didn't think he could stop. His battle worn fingers were brushing up Rebecca's slender thigh beneath her dress. Out here on the roof, they were right where they had left off all those months ago in the kitchen. No interruptions, just the release they had both been craving for so long.
