Thicker than Water

"They were bitten, not dead and buried." Wesker corrected. "I'm sorry Alex, we are not having this discussion."

"Will you at least tell me what colour your hair really is?" Stever asked, not wanti g Sherry to clam up on him. "Where did you learn those moves you used in that bar anyway?"

"Years of practice." Sherry answered, jerking open the driver's door and leaning into the floor board to tear open the steering column. "And no, I won't tell you what color my hair really is."

"There's a real simple way of finding out..." Steve mused with a smirk as he slid into the car.

"That changes too." Sherry said cheerfully, fully engrossed in what she was doing. "This gets easier every time, Stevie." She added with a laugh. "We'll be long gone and Wesker will never even know it!"

"Unless he put a tracking implant in you." Steve pointed out. "Don't underestimate just how much he wants you."

"Look in the glove box for a knife." Sherry muttered, suddenly unhappy. "As soon as I get this going...you're going to drive and I'm going to find one."

"Oh no, no no no!" Stever insisted, wishing he had just kept his mouth shut. "I'm not gonna let you start randomly mutilating yourself!"

Sherry lifted her head, nearly cracking it on the steering column. "I missed the part where that's your choice." She hissed at him.

"You're small. I could just sit on you." Steve replied with a snort.

Sherry couldn't help her smile. It got even wider when the engine roared to life. "Shall we burn the car you brought here? Make it look like you died?" She asked, dusting off her hands.

"Couldn't we find a body and make it look like I died in the heat of passion?" Stever responded, a self sure smile on his lips that hadn't been there since his memory had faded into darkness.

"Self passion or do you want me to add another body?" Sherry asked with a grin, moving to get to her feet. "Wow. This was easier than last time."

"Last time? Just how many times have you donethis?" Stever asked, his brow arching slightly.

"Counting this time...seven." Sherry said, pausing to tap her chin. "First time running from him though. Usually, I'm running from the government."

"You've really been through a lot, haven't you?" Stever asked, afraid to reach out and touch Sherry again, given that she didn't seem to like him doing so.

Sherry nodded, not one to lie about things like that. "It's been a hell of a life. But from the looks of you, it hasn't been easy on you either." She added, moving around the car to offer him a gentle hug.

Stever hadn't been expecting the hug, but did hug Sherry back, daring to even breathe her in. I wish I could say you're right." He replied, still hugging her. "But I don't remember."

"Then you're lucky." Sherry whispered, burying her face against Steve's chest. "I'd give anything not to remember."

Stever gently stroked his fingers over the back of Sherry's hair, then kissed the top of her head lightly. "I could help you make new memories?" He suggested softly. "Happy ones, if you let me."

"I don't deserve them." Sherry whispered, closing her eyes. "Come on before the car dies again. We'll never get out of here then."

"Who decided what we deserve?" Steve asked honestly. "You know... I have this feeling that you remind me of someone..."

"I can look like whoever you want me to." Sherry breathed, staring at the front of Steve's shirt. "I can be whoever and whatever I need to be. And if Albert Wesker ever finds that out...I'll never be free." She didn't know why it bothered her so much that Steve was stuck in the boat with her. It felt that he deserved to be free more than she did. "Listen...why don't you go? I have a feeling you need to get away too. So...you take the car and go and I'll keep the big bad Wesker busy. Okay?"

Steve was quick to shake his head as he tucked a finger under Sherry's chin, gently tilting her face up to look at him. "I don't think I would know what to do with true freedom." He confessed, kissing Sherry before she could push him away.

Sherry returned the kiss, unable to help herself. This was so different from Albert Wesker. He truly seemed to hate her compared to this.

Steve's fingers were gentle as he held Sherry, not wanting her to feel he was trapping her in any way. He was kissing her again and again, an odd mixture of calm and rapture filling him with each taste of her soft lips.

Finally Sherry pulled away, ashamed of herself for feeling guilty. "We'd better get going." She said softly, pulling him with her to the car. "We need to create mileage before we worry about memories."

Steve didn't need to hear it out loud, he could practically taste the guilt the moment Sherry pulled away from him. Again, it was odd that he had the memory of a woman feeling guilty for kissing him before. He pushed that thought to the back of his mind, thinking it had probably been some dream, or nightmare, he had had.

Sherry chose a magnate to find her tracking device. She ran it over her body several times but still felt nothing. She decided that Wesker truly didn't care if she were gone and after a while she gave up. After all, if he'd cared...he'd have come and found her long before now.

"I could double check, you know... Just to make sure?" Steve suggested with a wolfish smile before he could help himself.

Sherry shook her her head. "I think you're wrong about Wesker. I don't think he's even looking." she told him, tossing the magnet out the window. "I'm pretty sure we're safe."
