Precious memories

Wesker had gotten Rebecca back to the safety of the tiny facility where he had taken Claire and Leon's newborn children, it was also the place that Chris and Jill's dark haired daughter currently called home. However, for now wesker had left all three children in the care of someone else, his attention solely on easing Rebecca's pain and meding the wound he himself had given her.

"You mean give you time to come up with a believable lie?" Ark asked sadly, wearily pushing himself back to his feet. "I've been a patient man, Sherry... But I know what that woman did to you, and that's why I don't want her in my house after tonight. And the other one... I just dot like the way she looks at you."

"You don't know half of what you think you do!" Sherry hissed, narrowing her eyes at him. "We can't kick them out, Ark. Or else we're no better than they are. They have no where else to go. Besides, Ruby needs me right now. And further more, we'll share your bed and you'll stay on your own side or else." That said she marched toward the back bedroom, as if she knew exactly where she was going.

"Oh, I'm sure she needs you real good." Ark muttered as Sherry stomped away. The dark haired man wasn't holding his breath for this big to go the way he planned. He always did something to scare Sherry aware, and no doubt he would accidentally brush against her in his sleep and send her running.

Sherry woke up screaming several times during the night. The last time was near dawn so she simply abandoned sleeping and sat up, hugging her knees to her chest. Oddly enough it was somewhat comforting, almost like being locked in another cage.

Ark was very much awake now too. He was sat up next to Sherry, though once again he was careful not to get too close and cause her to flee. "What was it? What did you see?" He breathed, his voice alone gentle and comforting.

Sherry shook almost violently and closed her eyes. Not that it helped. It brought her dream back into sharp focus. "I never see him with blue eyes. Only those yellow ones. They're worse than mine. So mean...I hate him so much. He's worse than her and he didn't even do anything to me...not like she did. Rebecca was nice about it, I guess. She apologized for hurting me but he...he would just laugh when I screamed." Warm tears slid past her cheeks and landed on her knees.

Ark was careful as he reached out and wiped at Sherry's years with a rough thumb. "All the more reason to get her far away from here, don't you think?" He asked softly. "Sherry, I know I can't take away what they did to you, both of them... But I want to help. I want you to feel safe with me."

"Why?" Sherry asked, her chin quivering as she met Ark's grey eyes in the dim morning light. "Why do you want me to feel safe? What do you get out of it?"

"Why do you assume I am only out for what I can get?" Ark asked sadly. "I'm not like all the other people who hurt you, Sherry. I know you always run when I say it... But I love you. I'm not expecting you to feel the same way, but loving you is why I want you to feel safe. That's all I get out of it."

"You don't even know me." Sherry whispered, closing her eyes as she felt herself beginning to rebuild her wall. "How can you love me? Love...isn't real. It's just something to help people further themselves. I saw it often enough to know what I'm talking about, Ark."

"Then you didn't see real love." Ark replied simply. "And I know myself well enough to know I ldo love you."
Ruby had come running when she had heard Sherry scream, but had stopped out in the hallway when she ears Ark was in the room too. She had lingered there only until she heard him telling Sherry how much he loved her.

Sherry shook her head again, rubbing at the back of her neck nervously. "I don't want to talk about this anymore." She whispered, getting off the bed. For some reason she simply couldn't face what Ark was saying. Maybe it was because she was afraid to, or maybe it was because she was afraid of what would happen if she did.

"You never do." Ark replied, doing his best not to appear hurt by her rejection, he thought that would be all too selfish of him.

Sherry left the room completely, all but slamming the door behind her. She nearly sent both herself and Ruby tumbling down the stairs when she stumbled into the younger woman in the hall.
"Ruby, for heaven's sake! What are you doing out here?!" She shouted, having to catch herself on the railing.

"I... I..." Ruby was about to tell Sherry she had heard her scream, but thought against it at the last moment. "I was looking for the bathroom." She lied, thinking Sherry would explode at her if she knew the younger woman had been listening in.

"The one downstairs is next to the kitchen..." Sherry said, her tone gentling. "Hey...when you get done...I have something really cool to show you."

"I'm not that desperate." Ruby replied, as though eager to spend time with the only friend she had ever had. "What is it you wanted to show me? Ohhh, is it something secret?" She added, sounding hopeful.

Sherry nodded, her grin widening. "Wait here." She ran back down the hall and into Ark's room. When she returned she carried a small lighted object in her hand. "He calls it a cell phone." She told the younger woman. "It calls places all over the world and doesn't even have to be plugged in! Plus...it's got pictures!"

Ruby picked the cellphone up and brought up a list of Ark's recent calls. It was quite clear she had used one before, of course she didn't elaborate on this fact, knowing Sherry had been locked away for all her teen years, while Ruby had often played with 'Uncle Albert's ' cell as a small child. "I guess it's nice... If you have someone to call..." She murmured, scrutinising the list of contacts.

For some reason watching her friend look over this list made Sherry feel extremely uncomfortable. She jerked the phone out of the other woman's fingers and scowled deeply. "Don't be nosy." She snapped, holding the phone close to her as if it were precious.

"Oh, and stealing the damn thing in the first place wasn't being nosy?" Ruby shot back, her bright sapphire eyes narrowing at Sherry.

"I didn't steal it." Sherry hissed. "I asked him first." This was the truth and it was clear in the way she was blushing.

"Well gee, aren't you the perfect little rebel." Ruby snorted. "Look, I figured I should tell you instead of just ditching... But I'm getting out of here. Your stupid boyfriend clearly doesn't want anyone but you around, so I won't outstay my welcome. Have fun, you know... With your nightmares and stuff..." She added as she turned away, not wanting Sherry to see her face, or the pained look she wore.

"Did I say something wrong?" Sherry asked, again feeling like an abandoned child. "Was it the phone?" She felt like she was standing on the road, watching Claire leave her standing with a man she was terrified of. "Are you mad that I brought us here?"

Ruby halted where she was, her slender shoulders stiff. "I'm just walking away before you get the chance to do it to me!" She hissed, though didn't turn around. "You said you didn't want to see Ark, but you brought us right to him!"

"I didn't know where else to go!" Sherry all but shouted, her chest heaving. "That woman we are with...she's not thinking straight and she's...she's pregnant. I can sense it. I knew we had to get off the road and be somewhere safe until we can do something about it...about her...I didn't know where else to go!"

"What?!" Ruby spun around to face Sherry, stalking back over to the other woman until they were nose to nose. "That's not possible!" She insisted. "Not with him..." Her words died off and the realisation hit her that if Rebecca truly did carry Wesker's seed within her... ruby herself was to blame.

Sherry nodded her head several times, trying not to feel threatened by the dark haired woman. "Yes. It is...I sense it. I'm never wrong about those things..."

Ruby didn't even realise she remotely threatening, as it was still hard to think of herself as a grown up. "Then we need to get rid of it." She suddenly declared. "Wesker will soon fix what I did to him, and then he will be able to find her." She added, not realising that she was I. Fact the liability in this senario.

"Ruby!" Sherry protested, already shaking her head. "We can't kill a baby! It's not the things fault that this happened! He'll find her no matter if she is knocked up or not!"
