Precious memories

Wesker had gotten Rebecca back to the safety of the tiny facility where he had taken Claire and Leon's newborn children, it was also the place that Chris and Jill's dark haired daughter currently called home. However, for now wesker had left all three children in the care of someone else, his attention solely on easing Rebecca's pain and meding the wound he himself had given her.

"I see..." Wesker breathed as he rose up to his feet. "And that's it? You see no sense in commitment?" He asked thinly. "No reason at all?"

"You're the one who said there was no sense in marriage." Rebecca said softly, yawning whether she could help it or not.

"Yes... No sense." Wesker breathed, quietly placing a tiny velvet box on the table beside the bed. "Forget I was even here. Go back to sleep, you need to keep your strength up."

Rebecca truly had no idea what she was saying. She was so certain this was a meaningful conversation. She had no idea just how badly it was going. "Can I have a kiss?" She asked him, her cinnamon colored lashes brushing her cheeks as she yawned again. "Will you...bring me a pickle when you come back?"

Wesker leaned over Rebecca and brushed his lips lightly to her forehead. "I'll have someone bring you one." He breathed, seeming to take what appeared to be a last look at her before moving to the doorway.

Rebecca woke the next morning, starving and yet sick to her stomach. She looked around the room the moment she opened her eyes, worried when she found herself alone.

Wesker had sat in his car outside for hours. He didn't sleep, but nor did he do anything other than simply stare up at the window to Rebecca's room. He hadn't thought he was still able to get upset over a woman. Especially not over something as mundane as being jealous.

Rebecca sighed heavily and pushed out of her bed. The wires had been removed and she was at long last free to move around. As soon as she was able she found herself at the nurses' station, hunting through a file cabinet for her own chart.

"Hey, you're not supposed to be back there." A little girl commented when she saw Rebecca was wearing a hospital gown much like her own. "If nurse Smith finds you, she'll make you sleep for a loooong time."

"Shhh." Rebecca waved the little girl away and reached into the back of the cabinet, sure her file was back there. "If you go away she won't know anything."

"Ruby used to say that too." The little girl continued, hauling herself up onto the desk to watch Rebecca. "Then last night she went away... I miss her. She used to teach me naughty words."

"Ruby?" Rebecca's head shot up so fast at this, it struck the desk with a nasty crack. For several minutes she saw nothing but stars. "Ruby?" She finally managed. "Where is she?"

The little girl chugged her painfully thin shoulders; it was clear that whatever she had was terminal. "Dunno... She said her room was far away from mine, but last night she never came to see me. Ruby told me the most important thing I could ever do... Was to be brave. If I'm brave, then not even dying will scare me."

Rebecca nodded, tears sliding down her cheeks. "She's right." She whispered, reaching out to pat the girl's arm. "Never be afraid of anything." That said she turned back to what she was doing and stuffed her file into the front of her gown as a nurse walked by.

"You're Rebecca, aren't you?" The little girl asked, having caught the name on e file Rebecca had taken. "Ruby used to ask about you... But I never saw you until today."

"Ruby asked about me?" Rebecca asked in surprise, edging around the desk with the file pressed to her belly. "Why on earth would she do that? The last time I saw her she made it clear she hated me."

"She wanted to know about a baby." The little girl replied, puzzled by the way Rebecca was moving away from her. "She said she couldn't look for you herself... Because a bad man was there."

Rebecca returned to the little girl's side, glad to be on the other side of the desk. "A baby? What kind of baby?" She asked. "Ruby didn't know anyone with a baby."

The little girl clearly looked confused. "But..." She glanced to rrebeccas belly, then back up into her face. "She said the baby was yours..."

Rebecca gave the little girl a look of pure shock and she yanked the file out from under her gown and began to look through it. "Oh god...please..." She breathed, though she wasn't sure whether she meant it in a good way or not.

"Who is the bad man that ruby was afraid of?" The little girl asked, not stopping to think that Ruby would resent the thought that she feared anything.

"My..." Rebecca wasn't sure what to call him that this girl would understand. Finally she settled on something. "My boyfriend." She explained, busy looking down the front of her gown. There it was, a tiny but unmistakable bump. "Oh god..." She breathed. She dropped the down and looked at the little girl. "Albert is hard to understand sometimes. He's a little bit aggressive for most people. Ruby...is only afraid of him because she doesn't understand..." She paused, now chewing on her bottom lip. She had to see. She had to make sure her baby was all right. "Hey...want to see something cool?" She asked.

The little girl reached up and took hold of Rebecca's hand, completely trusting this stranger. "I can never sleep. I like to explore." She told the pregnant woman with a proud smile.

Rebecca found an ultrasound machine tucked in a far corner of the floor they were on. She somehow got it back to her room, the little girl in tow, without being seen.
Once she was there she turned it on and began examining the tiny bump. "Four months..." She breathed, staring at the already well formed, yet tiny infant inside her. "See...there's the head...looks okay..." She was moving the wand, nearly missing what she was looking at. Her fingers were shaking wildly.

"That's a head?" The little girl asked, squinting her eyes slightly and tilting her head."It looks like a blob."

"No, no...it looks more like an alien." Rebecca breathed, her thoughts on just how Albert Wesker was going to take the news that he was having a son. He obviously knew. But by the way he'd allowed them to give her drugs that weren't safe...she wasn't sure if it meant he truly didn't care.
"It's a boy." She whispered, as she moved the wand across her belly. She'd avoided something strange that she'd seen. She'd go back to it once she had her bearings.

"How do you know that?" The little girl asked, still squinting, clearly not even seeing a baby, let alone a boy. "I saw the picture my mom had of my baby brother before he was born... That didn't look like a baby either." She added with a heavy sigh.

Rebecca laughed softly at this. "They never do until they come out." She told her. "Sweetie...you better go back to your room." She added, now moving the wand to what she'd seen before. Her heart fell into her stomach. "I need to make a phone call..." Her voice failed her and she nearly burst into tears. Albert would surely reject the baby now...

"Why are you so sad?" The little girl asked, gently taking hold of Rebecca's hand again. "Are you worried your boyfriend won't be happy? Ruby told me not to trust boys... She said I should promise ever to have a boyfriend." She added, as though she just knew she needed to keep Rebecca talking.

Rebecca nodded and shook her head at the same time. "It's not so much Albert...I don't care if he's unhappy...I'm keeping the baby...It's the baby..." She confessed, a few tears dripping down her cheeks. "And Ruby...has never known a nice boy...she can't say they're all bad. She never met her father...he is a nice man.."
