So slow to catch on

Jill gave Leon a little push, then smiled. "Believe me, these things can last days." She assured him. "Besides, I want the chance to grill you myself."
"You doubt my suitability as a mother?" Claire asked thinly, folding her arms across her chest.

"What is wrong with me?! You were the crazy bitch with the gun pointed at people!" Ark shouted.
Jill rolled Chris over, cradling his head in his lap as she quickly tried to apply pressure to both the entry and exit wounds in his neck. "It's going to be okay... Your going to be okay..." her words were more for her benefit than anything else.

Sherry dropped her guns and gave Ark a heartbroken look. "You don't understand." She whispered, turning to head in the direction that Ark and Chris had come from. "I was just trying to help."
Chris wasn't answering anymore. He was simply swallowing the blood that filled his throat. "Over." He finally managed. "Like you wanted."

Ark caught Sherry's slender wrist before she could get very far. "You don't understand what you just did... Jill will never forgive you if Chris dies. She died for him, so to speak. You need to find Claire and tell her to get a medic in her ASAP."
"No... You can't be the one to leave." Jill all but sobbed, her bloody fingers stroking Chris' cheek once she had used the bottom half of her t shirt to try and slow the bleeding. "Claire needs you, the world needs you...I... Need you."

"You think I care if people forgive me?" Sherry spat, nearly hissing like an angry cat. "Let go of me, sir. I could care less about the lot of you. You all left me here with her. Allowed me to be treated like an animal. You really think I care how my actions make anyone feel?!" She yanked her arm away from him, nearly dragging him to the ground. She only got a few steps when she sighed loudly and turned to head back the way she'd come. "Fine. Don't say I never did anything for you." She told Ark as she passed him, disappearing into the darkness a few feet away.
Soon enough Leon and Claire were running back into the room, Sherry on their heels. Chris was still breathing but not longer bothering to hold on to consciousness. This was what everyone wanted. He was sure of it. He was doing them all a favor.

Claire could barely breathe when she saw her rather lying all but motionless in Jill's arms. There was so much blood it was hard to tell where he was actually injured. "Who did this?!" She demanded, her fear quicklyturning to anger.
Jill didn't hear anything anyone said. This was her fault, she was sure of it. It was her they were supposed to have put down like an animal. She was the very thing they had sent the better part of their adult lives fighting... So why was Chris being punished like this?

"He asked me to." Sherry whispered, though she didn't seem overly remorseful for it. Claire or not, she'd done what she thought was best.
Leon simply stared at the young woman, finally seeing the change in her. It went deeper than the things she said, it was also in eyes that were more cat like than human. "We should try to get him out of here..." He said after a moment, deciding to deal with Sherry Birkin later. "Mr. Thompson...right? You and I will carry him...Sherry, get us out of here and make it fast." He barked, yanking off his shirt and wrapping it over what Jill had already done to stop the blood. "It's going to be okay." He told Jill, placing a hand on her shoulder. "He's got you back now. That'll be enough to keep him going."

Jill couldn't tell Leon he was wrong. He was still so naive, and she knew that was what Claire loved about him. The moment Chris was stable, she would once again be locked away for study. It was as they passed by Sherry that the elder woman finally reacted to something. She grabbed a hold of the young woman by the throat, easily lifting her off the ground. "If Chris dies... I'll find you." She swore, then simply let go of her and carried on walking.

Sherry simply watched the elder women, her own eyes rather dark and unreadable. She'd done what Chris had asked her to do. Why was everyone so angry with her?
Leon was gentle with Chris as he helped a crew place him in the waiting medic chopper. Despite everything the other man had done to him he knew it was simply out of love for Claire. A love they shared.

Claire climbed up into th chopper to be with her brother, meaning that there was no room for Jill. "I'm sorry Leon... I have to ride with him. You'll follow us, right?" She asked as the helicpter's blades began to power up.
Jill could do little but watch. The look claire had given her, made it quite clear the slender red head wanted her to keep far away from Chris.

Sherry looked toward Ark and sighed deeply. "Well? Where does all this leave you?" Her eyes traveled to Jill and she shook her head. "He'll be fine. I only hit the spine. No major veins."

"Great, so a man who has been a soldier all his life may now be paralysed from the neck down." Jill spat.
Ark sighed heavily, knowing nothing he said would quell Jill's anger right now. "Hey, Sherry, you want to ride to the hospital with me? I'm sure you're right, Chris will be fine."

Sherry shook her head. "I'm not going anywhere where people will try to keep me." She said firmly. "I'm going..." She paused, chewing on her bottom lip. "Anywhere but here..."

Chris felt nothing. He knew when doctors and nurses were fussing over him, but beyond that little mattered. He couldn't hear Jill's voice anymore and he barely understood his sister. Maybe Claire was getting ready to leave him too.

"I could... Take you... You know... Somewhere..." Ark wasn't quite sure why he was stumbling over his words like this, and tried to seem rather casual by running his fingers through his dark hair.

Chris couldn't hear Jill because she couldn't get close enough. Claire had left specific instructions that the elder woman was not to come within even twenty feet of Chris. The younger Redfield sibling was pacing by her brothers bedside. None of the doctors were giving her a definite answer about how serious her brothers condition truly was.

"Claire..." Leon stood in the doorway, watching his girlfriend as she paced. "This can't be good for the baby...for you..." He said haltingly, not sure what else to say. "This isn't helping anyone. You should...let Jill take your place for a while."

"No! I don't want her here!" Claire insisted firmly. "She made my brother believe she isn't love him, she distracted him by suddenly turning up again, and is the reason he is lying here half dead now!" her slender fists were balled up tightly, a clear indication of how angry she still was. A moment later she was cloying her eyes and taking in a shaky breath as she buried her face in her hands. "Sherry could have gotten it wrong... There is every chance I'm not actually pregnant, so don't worry about it."

"Pregnant or not, honey, I'm worried about you." Leon whispered, kneeling in front of her and pressing a kiss to the hands that covered her face. "You're all I have. Chris would give me another black eye if I let something happen to you and frankly....this one hurts bad enough." He tried to tease.

Claire slowly pulled her hands from her face, then reached one of them up to gently trace the discoloured skin around Leon's eye. "Most guys would have run a mile rather than deal with a brother like mine... I'm lucky to have you." She breathed.

"I love your brother too, Claire. A little punch or two isn't going to send me away." Leon breathed in return. "Chris has a right to his feelings. You're all he has. You're like his child. He'd die for you. I have so much respect for him for that. Most guys would have ran the minute they got the chance. Your brother is pretty amazing. Just like you." He added, pressing his lips to hers.

Claires slender arms circled around Leon's neck as she drew his loving kiss out as long as she could. His words meant the world to her, she isn't know how to show it. "If Jill hadn't gone missing... He would have been a real father by now." She breathed. "He's had so much stolen from him... And now this."

"Sherry told me he asked for what she did. It doesn't make sense to me but...I think there is something to her words. That sounds crazy, doesn't it?" Leon asked, taking a moment to glance over to where Chris lay in the bed.

"He asked to... Die?" Claire asked in a horrified whisper. "I can't believe that. No, Chris isn't that weak."

"Favor." Chris wheezed, proving that he was more awake than he had been an hour or so ago. "Its for...favor..."
Leon cringed at the broken words. He knew what it was like to think his death would be a favor to everyone.

"Favour?" Claire echoed, a horrified look in her dull sapphire eyes as she hurried back to her brother's bedside. "Why would you think Leon or I would begetter off without you?" She breathed, not even entering Jill into the equation right then.

"You and Jill." Chris grunted, concentrating now on moving fingers that were only moving in his mind. "Leon can eat shit."
Leon laughed softly and shook his head. "It's nice to know I'm thought about."

"I love you Chris, of course I would never want you dead!" Claire shouted suddenly. "You have been my only family for the majority of my life, I can't believe you would just give up like this!" She was almost shaking she was so angry. "Jill is the one who can eat shit! She's the reason your lying here like this! I wish she really was dead!"

"Don't you dare blame Jill." Chris growled, not yet opening his eyes. "I blame Sherry. She's the one who missed a perfect shot."
Leon's mouth dropped open at this. He'd never thought he'd hear Chris say the things he was saying now.

"I still don't understand!" Claire shouted. "Why would you do this? Is death really the only option you felt you had left?"

"No one needs me anymore." Chris breathed, finally opening his eyes to look at his sister. "You have Leon...Wesker is dead...Jill thinks I'm disgusting. There's no use for me anymore."

"No she doesn't." Jill was stood in the doorway of Chris' room, a trail of unconscious security men in the hallway behind her. "She was trying to do the right thing, she was trying to give you a normal life."

"There's no normal life for me." Chris told her, now staring at the ceiling. "Wesker took that away from all of us...Umbrella took it away. Life with you was all I ever wanted. I guess I'm too stupid to see it could never happen."
