Thicker than Water

Alex Chambers stood on the helicopter landing pad his fingers pressed to his forehead to block out the morning sun. He was dancing from one foot to the other, unable to hide his excitement.
"I see them!" He shouted back to his mother, who was standing near the entrance with a medical team. None of them knew what kind of shape their heroes would return to them in but Alex didn't seem to care. Already he was hopping up and down waving at the chopper as it drew closer. He cheered when Chris Redfield waved to him and repeated the action when Jill Valentine did the same. But as the helicopter touched down his smile began to fade. Not everyone he'd hoped to see was stepping out.
"What happened?" Rebecca Chambers soon came to stand beside her son, her lips set in a thin line as she looked from Chris to Jill. "Where is Parker?" She'd done her best to keep herself from saying this man's name first but she couldn't seem to help herself. "Where's Jessica?" She added, hoping this would make for a decent cover up.

"There's a hospital in the valley." Alex told her as he held out a pair of pajamas for her to wear. "We can just...you know...borrow one from there and leave a note or something."

"How dare you say that!" Sophie growled, her finger nails digging into her palms as she glared at his back. "You don't even know me! How would you know if I was frigid?"

Violet disappeared inside the duvet, then popped out wearing pajamas that dwarfed her tiny frame. "We should steal some food, and milk too." She confirmed with a nod. If anyone was listening in on this conversation, it would seem more than odd coming from two children. They weren't just dreaming, they each had the ability to bring this p,an to fruition.

"A lucky guess." Wesker replied without turning around. "You're a librarian... They're always sexually repressed."

"No...Milk would go bad. We'll get the water bottles from out of the kitchens." Alex said thoughtfully, already tossing things into his back pack. "What about Miss Sophie."

"Well you would be wrong." Sophie shot back. "You should never stereotype someone. It's crass and extremely stupid."

Violet shook her head. "I'll miss her... But she would never let us leave. She would want to involve your... Our... Father."

"A d I have found it is often correct." Wesker replied. "Unless, of course... You have been engaging in extra curricular activities with the older students, after dark?"

"He's not my father." Alex said firmly. "My father is off somewhere trying to save my mother. And I'm not scared of him. You shouldn't be either."

"You're sick minded." Sophie snapped. "I take my activities to town if I must. I do not involve children."

Violet smiled sadly. "Pray he never gives you a reason to be afraid." She whispered, pointing to the scars that covered her forearms. "Or that you ever fail him."

"And what about now?" Wesker purred, behind Sophie before she could blink or turn around. "What if I said I always wished to get... Extra curricular... with a librarian?"

"He's given me plenty of reasons." Alex muttered. "And he is the one who failed. He won't hurt you again." He promised, resting his hands over the scars on her arms. "I won't let him."

"I would tell you to find one." Sophie snapped, though her heart was beating at least a hundred miles an hour. How had he managed to get behind her? "Don't try your shit with me, Mr. Wesker. I won't fall into your bed, like Medgismith did."

"Promise?" Violet found herself breathing as her sapphire eyes looked up into Alex's. "Even though... I'm the one who is supposed to protect you?"

Wesker laughed quietly, his umbrella gone as his hands came to rest on Sophie's waist from where he still stood behind her. "I made her squeal like a virgin on her wedding night." He purred, his lips brushing her slender throat as he spoke,

"I promise." Alex said firmly, feeling as though there needed to be some way to seal this promise. All he could think of was to lean forward and press his lips to her as Parker would often do to his mother.

Sophie threw her elbow back, catching Wesker in the stomach. She wasn't to know it but it was purely by surprise that she got away with it. "I heard." She snorted, rolling her eyes. "You know, I don't see why you care what becomes of either child. As far as I can tell you are far too self serving!"

Violet's eyed widened a little and she touched her fingers to her lips lightly. Of course she had read of kisses in her books, but that hadn't prepared her for the rush of emotion her own first kiss had brought her. "Now you own me, silly Alex." She finally breathed with a gentle smile. "You can never get rid of me." She added, pushing her feet back into her slippers as she reached for the door. "I'll meet you outside in twenty minutes, okay? I'll have the food and water by then."

Wesker had certainly not been expecting that elbow to his gut. As Jill had mentioned to Chris, women always seemed to flock to Albert wesker, he was not accustomed to rejection. "And?" He asked, still a little winded. "I would expect the very same from my son, my legacy!"

"I'll get our clothes and some books." Alex promised, waving at her. "Don't be too long and don't get caught, Vi."

"Fuck legacy." Sophie hissed, making sure to create distance between them. "If that boy turns out anything like you, I feel sorry for him."

"Who do you think I am? You?" Violet replied with a playful smile that only Alex ever saw. That said, the door shut behind her and the dark haired girl was running silently down the hallway.

"And you should feel sorry for the girl, if she turns out like her mother." Wesker countered. "She will be fated to an foolish and untimely death anyway."

Alex forgot to worry about things as he finished packing and shot across the campus to Violet's room. All they needed were a few items and then they'd be clear. There was nothing to worry about.

"You're not taking them." Sophie said firmly, crossing her arms over her chest. "Alex and Violet are finally doing well. They are coming out of their shells and they deserve the happiness they have. There is no need to ruin it for them because you can't find your own!"

On violets desk was a photograph of her and Alex smiling at the camera. It was inside a frame that declared them 'BFF's', though if they were a little older, it most likely would have said something a little different.

"Coming out of their shells?" Wesker asked thinly, not sure why this thought suddenly filled him with dread.

Alex wore the same silly grin as he looked at the picture. He adored Violet. His entire world had begun to revolve around her. He didn't want that to change. He slid the frame into one of the bags and slung them over his shoulder. Twenty minutes had gone by fast.

"We're done here." Sophie said thinly, already turning to head back to the school. Not only had this woman called him stupid and shot down his advances, but she had now dismissed him. There wasn't a woman alive who'd gotten away with all that. And she didn't seem to realize she probably wouldn't live much longer either.

What neither child realised, was that if any of their real families ever discovered them, or if Violet's actually found out she existed... They would never be permitted to remain close to each other. It didn't matter that Rebecca was his mother, there was no chance in hell Chris Redfield would allow his only daughter to love a Wesker.
Violet was barely able to carry the giant bag of food she had filled, but she struggled on regardless. Alex was depending on her, and that gave her strength.

Oddly, Wesker allowed Sophie to walk away. He was watching her as she did so, thinking she was attractive in the way he had always wished Excella was. Excella had been a convenience, he had never really held any genuine affection for her.

Because his load was lighter, Alex was the first to enter the courtyard. He was laughing to himself as he shoved the bag under the bench. "Hey, Vi!" He hissed loudly. "Hurry it up!"

"You could at least help me!" Violet hissed in reply, the bag feeling like it weighed more than she did by the time she slumped onto the bench. "You always get the easy jobs!"

"That's cause you don't let me have the easy stuff." Alex laughed. He narrowed his eyes as he saw Miss Sophie running in their direction. He wasn't sure he liked the panicked look on her face.

"Maybe she won't see us?" Violet remarked weakly, whilst discretly trying to push her own bag under the bench with Alex's.

"Get your bags." Sophie gasped out. She had a jacket in one arm and keys in the other. "We have to get you two out of here and fast." The dark haired woman was well aware that she would probably go to jail for life for this but she simply couldn't let that man have these two children. Not when Violet finally seemed to be happy.

Violet glanced uncertainly to Alex, then back up at Sophie. "Where are we going?" She asked innocently.

"I don't know..." Sophie wheezed, pressing the hand with the keys to her side. "Away from here. Far away. Your dad is here and he's...I don't know...He's talking with Ms. Medgismith right now. We're running out of time..."

Violet didn't know what to do. This wasn't how their adventure was supposed to start. "Wesker... Is here?" She breathed, fear creeping into her usually brave voice.

Alex grabbed Violet's arm and pulled her to her feet. "Forget the food." He whispered to her. "Sophie's right. We need to go. Right now she's the only chance we have to get away from him."

Violet hesitated slightly, then nodded. "But Miss Sophie... This means you can never go back to your library, are you okay with that?"

Sophie nodded. "There's a million libraries in every state. Besides, Ms. Medgismith found me working in a bar. The librarian thing was just a job I always wanted...Oh hell...I'll explain it later." She said, herding the kids towards her car.

As they trotted along towards Sophie's car, vioet squeezed Alex's fingers gently, offering him a reassuring smile. This wasn't how they had planned their escape, but it would have to do. For now.

A part of Sophie knew they wouldn't make it all the way to her car. Even if she didn't know their color, she could feel a cruel pair of eyes on them. "Frigid librarian, my ass!" She hissed, shoving the keys in Violet's hand the moment the girl was close enough. "If you are what he says you are, then now would be a good time to utilize it. I'll distract him while you two get in the car." She breathed in the girl's ear, speaking while she pretended to simply be hugging her. "Good luck, sweetie."
She saw Wesker's tall, well muscled form in a flash of lightning. He was moving towards them, stalking them like a starving panther. She pretended not to notice as she took the bag from Alex and placed it in the trunk. She was stalling so the two could get situated. She'd just have to deal with whatever the consequence were to be.

Violet saw Wesker too, and I was all she could do not to Reece to the spot with fear. Sophie was right though, the little girl knew exactly what to do with the keys and how to get that car all the way to where they needed to go. "Don't let him sweet talk you." She warned Sophie, gesturing Alex into the car with a nod of her head.
