Sibling Rivalry

Chris Redfied pressed his knee hard into the neck of an extremely dirty and unkempt man. "Enough!" He shouted, too angry to pay any attention to the blood dripping into his eyes. "You seem to have the idea that I'm here to do anything but get information!" He held tight to the other man's enormous hammer with his free hand. "I'm not going to kill you unless you make me." He added darkly. 
The BSAA was dirty. It was rotten from the inside just like Umbrella had been. There were viruses leaking out left and right. 
He'd gotten a clue about a way to end it. At least that was what the message had implied. 

Rebecca Chambers held onto her coffee cup as she followed a tall figure dressed in black. She was barely paying attention to where she was going as she stared at the corpses of men with mutated bodies. Oddly they looked like werewolves. She wondered where this virus had come from. 
She was so lost in her thoughts she didn't see the man in front of her stop. She crashed into him hard enough to send her to the ground. Her much needed coffee showering over the bodies next to them. 
Rebecca had prepared for this mission for months. Everything was supposed to be going like clockwork. But her source was dead and nothing was as it was supposed to be. 
"I hate snow." She snorted, trying not to laugh at just how stupid it all was. Her tall partner hadn't moved. "But worst of all...I hate creepy dolls." She added. "There's another one! I swear it's watching us!"

Justin stopped in his tracks. Once again his attitude changed in a flash. "The name is Justin." He snarled. "Don't get too extra. I don't mind sending your Captain a transmission and tattle." He moved closer to them, his jaw set. 
Besides her Leon was rubbing his chin in thought. He'd have to tell Jill later his thoughts on the strange young man. For now he had questions. "A fetch mission? Seriously? Those are so boring."

Jill have a quiet huff at Leon’s comment. “Don’t worry, you’ll soon change your mind when you realised I’ve dragged you into hell.” She murmured before refocusing her attention on Justin. “Unbunch your panties. Like I said, are we done here? I need to brief my partner and find your dumb flower.”

Justin gave them further instructions and access to weapons. But this was only when they were safely away from the island. 
Leon sat across from Jill in a luxury plane. He wasn't at all comfortable in something like this. Especially not for the reason it was happening. 
"So, there's no word from Claire?" He asked, unable to keep himself from the question any longer. "She couldn't know what happened right? Maybe she stumbled away and is in another village?"

Jill shook her head, though her left leg continued to bounce up and down, a nervous tick Chris had often poked fun at her for. “Leon, that village… It was…” She sucked a deep breath to try and calm herself. “It was hard to tell what was even real. I mean… there was a point where I thought Chris had stabbed me in the chest and left me fore dead.” She laughed, thought it was obviously out of nervous energy more than real amusement. “Nicholai was there… Or was he? I…” she leaned forward and raked her fingers through her hair. “It was so fucked up. Chris’ team, Hound Wolf… they said there was no sign of Claire, or Rebecca, but was it even them? Fuck…” She reached out and drained the glass of amber liquid next to her seat. “I don’t even know who this little dipshit is. I woke up, in a bed, someplace I didn’t know with no clue how I got out of that village. I only understand less than half of what he even says when he flaps the hole in his face.”

Leon nodded and smiled. "He is a strange one. But what were you guys doing there? And where is the rest of the team? You've only mentioned Chris." His face was again grim, as if he were holding back on telling her something.

Jill gave a sudden bark of laughter when she realised she wanted to slap Leon. He was so infuriatingly calm, but then he hadn’t been through what the rest of them had recently. “The little turd has Rebecca too. Fed me some bullshit about her being a snake in the grass.” Jill hesitated there, her steel gaze watching Leon closely, wondering if he had ever had any suspicions.

Leon simply nodded. "Jill...the president shut down the BSAA last week. He said it was corrupted from the inside. He named the usual suspects as the cause. People have been arrested and sent to federal prison. It's a shit show." He ran a hand through his hair. "The president announced a new group that would take over the job of groups like CIA and FBI. They're called Rubix. Guess who was at the forefront when for the press briefing?"

If possible, Jill actually grew several shades paler. “No… you’re fucking with me, right?” She breathed, taking another large gulp of her drink. “How?! How did he get so deep without a single one of us seeing it?” She hissed, glancing around to ensure they were actually alone. Slender fingers raked through her hair again. “Leon… The list of people to be arrested, were Chris and I on that list?”

Leon nodded slowly. "Along with Claire and Barry... there's a whole manifest. Someone really did their homework." He went on. "I've been hearing rumors of the Terragrigia thing but I've been a bit busy. I was hoping you guys could clear it up for me. About the time I was going to look further into it, everything happened at once and you guys were gone. I can't even get ahold of Claire."

“No one can.” Jill responded, her tone softening considerably. “She was supposed to be working communications with Rebecca on Chris’ last op, but his team lost contact with both of them. Then that little dipshit showed me footage of Claire stabbing Rebecca. That’s the last known contact.” Jill leaned back in her plush seat and healed heavily. “Leon… I don’t even know what is real any more. What if we find Wesker? What if he takes control again and forces me to turn on all of you? You need to promise me… If that happens, don’t hesitate. Pull the trigger and end me.”

"You know Chris is going to murder me outright." Leon said with a gentle smile. "I'm imagining him squeezing my neck until my head pops like a pimple." He teased. "Or maybe he'll just punch me into the sun. He's not known for slow and painful, you know."

Rebecca was once again marched towardscthe surface. Chris made a grab for her as he always did, this time managing to yank her back against the bars. 
After they'd managed to free her, she once again made a phone call to a number she didn't know. As she did every time she tapped in Morse code. She had to try. Even if it would never make it through to the man she loved.

Jill smiled almost fondly at the thought that he was slow where it counted. “Is that you admitting Chris is stronger than you, and that he could get his hands on you at all?” She teased. Jill has almost known what Leon would say. “It bothers me that this Justin kid is sending me, knowing the risk it poses. Why not Chris? Why is he so desperate to keep Chris under his control?”

The code reached its intended target each time, though she would gain no response. Each message was updating her husband on what her captors next step was, including who he had just sent to retrieve the cargo. It made it easier to plan where Wesker and his new puppet would be. 
Claire had fought just as hard as Jill, initially. However, Claire didn’t have the military training Jill had. Breaking her had been as simple as threatening those she loved. Claire’s control wouldn’t be as easily broken as Jill’s was; she had no chest device. The drug was pumped directly via an internal implant. It had taken a tiny amount of the perfected drug, P30-Alpha, and her body was replicating it perfectly. Wesker really should have thanked his sister for what she had done to Claire during her experiments, it made the entire process possible. The control over Claire was a vast improvement over anything that the T-Virus has made possible in Jill.

"You think maybe it has something to do with Chris' past?" Leon asked. "Something before he met you? Or maybe the poor kid just needs a hug." He shook his head. "Or soap in his mouth."

The lights went out in the cell block, plunging them into darkness. Rebecca couldn't breathe. Her fear of the dark was a tangible thing. She feared it so much she would work until she passed out so she would have to see the dark behind her eyes. Only Wesker himself knew just how bad it was. 
Somehow managing to pull herself onto the farthest corner of the metal framed cot, she pulled her knees to her chest and began to whisper the names of fruits. 
Her husband had somehow always managed to stop her on pomegranate. He would promise her the world and everything beneath it if she would simply trust him and go to sleep. 
Terrified at the idea of being alone in this deep darkness, Rebecca began to dig her nails into her legs. She was still whispering the names of fruits. Only this time they were rotting.

Jill was chewing on her lower lip as she considered what Leon had just suggested. Looking back to their lives before Umbrella cast an eternal show over them, Jill realised that Chris never spoke of his parents. She would try to bring them up, and Chris would lose his temper with her and storm off. Until now she thought it had been a painful memory he didn’t want to dwell on. But now the seed was there. Were Chris and Claire entangled with the corporation from the get go without even realising? “Does Claire ever talk about her parents to you?” She asked at last. 

Rebecca’s codes had been more helpful than she had realised. Not only would Wesker not be where Jill had been sent to find him, he was in the very building she and Leon had just left behind when they headed for the airfield. “I am quite fond of blood oranges.” A female voice remarked from outside Rebecca’s cell, still shrouded in the darkness. Heels clicked on the dirty concrete as she moved closer, finally crouching down in front of the cell door, the sound of metal on metal as a lock pick was inserted. The door swung open and Claire flicked on her flashlight, illuminating her face before handing the item to Rebecca. “He said you would need this. That I was to find you before you made it to pomegranate.”

Leon frowned. "Not really. All she ever said was that Chris told her that her mother was really pretty and their father smiled a lot." He rubbed his chin in thought. "She did say she dreamed Chris begged them not to take them to the mansion any more. You think maybe she wasn't dreaming?"

Rebecca reached out with shaking, bloodied fingers. She didn't have to ask who the voice belonged to or what had been done to her. She already knew.
"Claire!" Chris shouted at the sound of his sister's voice. "Claire! It's me!"

Jill swirled the remaining ice cubes round in her empty glass, wishing just one thing made sense nay more. “Chris was out drinking with the other STARS guys one night. I had to work late, so I was very much sober when he rolled up to my apartment.” She closed her eyes with a smile, recalling the image of him leaning in her doorway, thinking he was hot shit, when truthfully his shirt was on backwards and he could barely stand. And he was somehow missing a shoe. “I had to drag him inside when he started trying to serenade me. Give it half an hour though, and he was curled up on my bed, his head in my lap like a contended house cat. He told me some slurred story about how Claire had gotten lost inside his mom’s ‘office’ one day. That it took them most of the day to find her, and when they did, she had been bitten by something. His dad freaked out, dragged Claire away and he didn’t see her again for two days. They were never taken back to the office after that.” Jill frowned, wondering how she hadn’t connected the pieces sooner.

Claire’s head turned, only because sound make’s any intelligent life look in it’s general direction. She remained close to Rebecca, seemingly awaiting instruction from somewhere unseen. A moment later she was walking forward, slow and steady heel clicks resonating throughout the small cell block. “Tell me why I should care?” she asked, her tone entirely different to the one used with Rebecca.

Leon nodded again. "She does have that rough looking scar on her hip. When I asked her about it she said she didn't know." He was silent for some time before turning back to Jill. "She did tell me her parents used to take Chris and leave her alone." He paused again, clearly deep in thought. " That kid knows stuff. We need to stall until we can find out more."

"Claire..." Chris' voice was gentle as he reached out to touch her cheek. "I'm so glad you're okay. I was so worried. Let's get out of here and get Jill. This place is a fucking nut house."

“You probably shouldn’t let Chris know you’ve been that up close and personal with his baby sister’s hips.” Jill mused with a smirk. “Is concerning how much this kid does seem to know, about things even we don’t.” She commented, switching to pouring water into her glass now. “I wish Chris were here.” She added quietly, regretting that their last night before he shipped out with his team had been spent arguing about Claire and Rebecca.

Claire’s hand shot up and took hold of her brother’s wrist in a vice like grip. “Why would I ever help you? You left me to die. Remember that? I was choking on my own blood while you raced through the trees screaming Jill’s name.” She sneered, squeezing hard enough to bruise down to the bone.

"Yeah. He would at least have some well meaning speech to cheer us up." Leon agreed, laughing softly. 
It wasn't long after this that they would find themselves hunting through a defunct facility. They would search through the remains of everything Wesker had torn apart. There was nothing left to salvage, not even the dirt from the pot Rebecca's flower had been planted in. 

Chris didn't so much as grunt in pain. "You weren't there." He ground out. "We looked for you but you were gone. Claire, you know I would never leave you behind. I made you a promise."

“FUCK!” Jill kicked as discarded box that threw up a small dust cloud. “He clearly hasn’t been here in weeks!” She snarled, kicking the box again, this time hard enough to sent it sliding down the hallway to come to a halt at a closed office door. It wasn’t the lack of finding anything that had her upset, it was knowing Chris was in danger if she returned empty handed. 

Claire cocked her head to the side, sapphire gaze drifting to where she could snap the much larger man’s wrist with no more than a flick of her own. “Do I?” She asked coolly. “I’ll be sure to tell Jill all about your promises when we sink her back into the hell she fears so very much.” She purred, dropping his wrist at last and turning away.

Leon knelt and began reading over papers on the floor. "Was something going on with Rebecca? A lot of these papers are signed by her." He said after a while. "There's virus forms here for things I haven't seen since Raccoon City. What the hell?"

"We?" Chris managed to choke out. "What the hell are you talking about? Where are you going? Claire! Don't go! Those idiots might find you! We need to get you out of here before the lights come back on."

“She fooled us all.” Jill breathed, crouching down with her back against the wall, her gun still in her right hand as her left one rubbed over her face. She was tired. So very tired of always fighting the tide. “Who can we even trust anymore? Can I trust you, Leon? Or is Ada Wong about to jump out and infect me with something terrible while you two watch?” She didn’t mean it. Emotions were running high. “I’m sorry… I’m just on edge more than usual.”

Claire paused and turned back to look at her brother. “These lights?” She asked with a mocking smile, as the generator kicked back in, though the light down there was rather pitiful. Rebecca had been given her escape, Claire was the true distraction, not the darkness.

Leon was frowning deeply. "You really think that little of me?" He asked, setting the papers aside. "Why would I ever do something like that to you, Jill? What kind of man do you take me for?"
"You two need to get lit. Why is everything you do so fucking boring? I can't with this shit." The short young man stood across the room from them, his arms crossed over his chest. 

Rebecca collapsed on the stairs several times but finally managed to make to the helipad. Her finger shook as she opened the door to the chopper and slid into the seat beside the pilot. She closed her eyes for a brief moment and listened to the sound of the engine humming. It was comforting in a way that she was glad for. 
She jumped when the side door opened. She opened her eyes just enough to see that Claire had joined them. Then she closed them again. It wasn't Claire. It was a familiar scent that sent relief washing over her. Though her body was still in agony she felt safe. "Is everyone in?" She asked when someone gently pushed a headset onto her head.

Jill groaned and leaned her head back against the wall before pressing her back fully against it to slide back up to her feet. “You could always fucking die.” She remarked, realising it was taking all of her willpower not to launch a bullet between his eyebrows. Chris was relying on her… on Leon too. 

Decidedly non-female hands gently took hold of Rebecca’s face before a voice came through the headset she had just been given. “Do you really care… little sparrow?” Wesker breathed, gently tracing a rough thumb over the split in Rebecca’s lower lip.

"Yeah, so. There's finna be a change in plans. Everything went rizz back at base so...you two are headed back there. You saw what you were supposed to." Justin didn't step forward. He knew better. He simply stood where he was, wearing an ominous grin on his face.

Rebecca slept for days until her need to get back to work got the better of her. She appeared in Wesker's office and sat in the chair opposite him. "I've never had so much trouble understanding the English language." She said with a soft laugh. "I'm pretty sure those kids have had some kind of mass brain damage event."

Justin had finally done something smart. Getting too close to Jill in that moment would not have been wise, something the look in her own grey eyes more than betrayed. “You sent us on a wild fucking goose chase?! I don’t give a shit about what I’m supposed to see!” She would likely have attempted to rip the young man’s head from his body with her bare hands if Leon hadn’t been there to stop her from acting rashly.

Wesker couldn’t help the easy grin that crossed his face. “Yet again, you are right, Sparrow.” He confirmed. “I feared for the future of the species before hand. After witnessing that vile little runt, he has more than confirmed that they all need to evolve or die.”

Justin held out his hands in a savior like pose. "Yo. You'd better check yourself." He said, almost too softly to be heard. 
Leon rested his hand on Jill's mid section and shook his head. He wasn't sure what this man was up to but he didn't care for it. His free hand rested on his gun. He did everything he could to keep his partner where she was. Things were going to end badly if he didn't keep his cool.
"I'm gonna ghost you two. I'm going to keep the soy-boy with me. That's fax." He swept a hand out toward him. "The way you two vibe would leave anyone shooketh." He turned his back taking several deliberate steps towards a set of doors. "I'd say call your squad but I think your enemy took her." He finished. 
A video started up on the last remaining monitor showing them the exchange between Chris and Claire in the prison. Every single moment from when she had freed Rebecca to simply leaving her devastated brother on his knees begging her not to go was there.

"I'm thinking die." Rebecca said with a nod. "You should have seen them. If Spencer could have had the idea to create a virus that locked everyone to their phones..." She shook her head. "These kids. If one of them lost theirs, they'd start screaming like they were insane. It came to a fist fight where we were one day and the moron had just left his in the bathroom!"

Jill didn’t want to believe what she was seeing. But every mannerism, every inflection of the voice… it was all Claire. Seeing Chris damn near break like that caused her to ball her fists up tightly before she turned her gaze up to Leon, as though he had an explanation for the younger Redfield’s behaviour. “How am I supposed to do anything if I don’t understand a fucking word that little dipshit says?!” She hissed, her teeth bared as she continued to struggle with the anger that had bubbled since Wesker’s control over her. 

Wesker suddenly grinned even more and leaned forward on the desk between them. “So what you are saying, is if something were to happen, something that knocked out all cellphone access… That entire generation would devolve into chaos?”

Leon gently pulled Jill against him and hugged her tightly. "We need to get out of here and figure out what we're doing." He said softly. "I'll call us a ride. I know where Chris is. You need rest and I need...to think." 

Rebecca couldn't help her own grin as she looked at her husband. "Wouldn't that be something?" She purred, leaning the rest of the way to press her lips to his.

“I can rest when I’m dead.” Jill breathed, something she always told Chris when he told her to take it easy. The BSAA agent allowed Leon to hold her a moment longer, her eyes closed as she tried to convince herself it was Chris, and that none of this was happening. “No, you need to tell me where Chris is, then go find Claire. I know something awful is happening to her…”

Wesker was smiling against his wife’s lips, wishing the desk weren’t between them. “How did they ever mistake you for one of them…” He rumbled, rising to his feet and sweeping everything in range off the desk. A moment letter he had Rebecca perched on top of it, his hands splaying against the wood either side of her hips as he leaned in and kissed her again.
