Precious memories

Wesker had gotten Rebecca back to the safety of the tiny facility where he had taken Claire and Leon's newborn children, it was also the place that Chris and Jill's dark haired daughter currently called home. However, for now wesker had left all three children in the care of someone else, his attention solely on easing Rebecca's pain and meding the wound he himself had given her.

Wesker laughed quietly at the thought. "Yes, I can already picture you tearing through half a cow with your teeth." He mused. "Though I doubt that would be good for the baby."

In fact, Rebecca spent alot of her time eating raw or extremely under cooked meat. It seemed she couldn't help herself. She'd find herself waking up in the large kitchen in the middle of the night, already snacking away.
When she was sleeping, she was busy trying to figure out what it was that her former lover was hiding from her. It didn't help that he was almost always away either.

The time he was away from his pregnant lover, was time wesker spent in the deepest levels of his lab. He had kept Ruby's body down there to keep her away from Rebecca, and he felt she belonged down here with the monsters anyway. Her original purpose had been to eventually destroy Chris, and Jill. But now... Her superior bio chemistry was what he was interested in. Right now, Wesker's biggest fear was that Rebecca would not survive to carry his child to term, never mind give birth to it. Ruby was his current idea to fix that problem. Right then he was simply staring at the body, deep in thought. It was hard to fight the urge he had to simply feed her to one of the other monsters.

"Albert!" Rebecca was somewhere down the hall, not far from his current location. She'd managed to give the guards the slip and was looking for him. She'd spent several months being ignored and pushed aside and she was finally ready for an answer.

Wesker threw a sheet over Ruby's unmoving form, hoping Rebecca wouldn't notice her. "How many times have I told you not to wander around like this?" He asked as he moved into the hallway, anything to keep Rebecca out of the lab itself. "You're supposed to be taking it easy."

"I'm not even that pregnant." Rebecca muttered. "You're not treating me like I'm anything but a child. I thought we'd made it past that. And..." She was trying to stand on her tiptoes to look over his shoulder. Or at least try to. "What are you hiding from me? I thought..." She paused, doing her best to hide the saddened look on her face. "I thought you forgave me."

"I did. But my work is rather... Volatile. I could never forgive myself if something happened to you, and to our baby." It wasn't a compete lie, at least he could admit that much to himself. "You don't need to be here." Wesker added, an arm sliding around Rebecca's shoulders as he gently steered her away from the lab. "Are you hungry? I could take you out for lunch, if you like?" In his haste to distract Rebecca, Wrsker hadn't sedated Ruby as he usually did.

Rebecca was trying to dig in her heels to keep him from forcing her out of the lab. "No wait...I wanted to work on your serum. Albert, I can't just sit around like a lump for another six months or so! I have to do something or I'll go nuts! You won't even talk to me anymore!"

"I have enough serum." Wesker lied. "You are here as the woan I love, Rebecca, not an employee." He added firmly. "Find yourself a hobby, an interest, anything other than work."

Rebecca frowned at him and shook her head. "You're lying and we both know I don't have any hobbies other than this. I'm bored and you're ignoring me. You should at least let me do what I'm good at if you're going to avoid me, Albert."

"And what if you are good at something else, but never took the time to find out?" Wesker retorted. "Shouldn't you at least try?"

"Not when my expertise is needed elsewhere." Rebecca countered, now more than positive that Wesker was hiding something from her. She did a little dance with him, confusing him enough that she was able to slide under his arm and return to the lab. "It's so cold in here." She remarked as if she'd done nothing at all. "What are you keeping in here?"

Nothing that is any concern of yours!" Wesker told her, perhaps a little too harshly. The last thing he wanted was for her to find ruby, let alone the other experiments he was keeping alive.

"See." Rebecca said pointedly, stopping her advancement into the lab to give Wesker a dark frown. "You haven't forgiven me. You're probably just keeping me here until I have the baby and then you're going to dump me. I'm not stupid, you know."

Wesker groaned quietly and rubbed at the bridge of his nose. "Rebecca, do I seem like the type of man to want a child around? Some small helpless thing I would have to take care of myself?" He added, not bringing up Ruby, and how she had been here all her life.

Rebecca was one to bring up Ruby and she nearly had until she remembered that it had been his clone that had all but raised her. "Albert, you're the one who threatened me with that." She reminded him, wisely choosing to keep the argument about Ruby to herself. For a moment her attention waned, caught by the movement of something under a sheet. She was already moving toward it without thinking. "You're ignoring me." She breathed, now unable to hide her curiosity. "I need to have something to do..." Her voice faded. It was more like she was explaining it to herself than anyone else.

Even with his superhuman speed, Rebecca was closer to the sheet than wesker himself was. "Then I won't ignore you. We can do anything you like, anything away from this lab and the many chemicals and samples that could harm you and my unborn child."

"How much worse can that get?" Rebecca muttered, her thoughts only half with Wesker's words. She was so close to the sheet now. It would have to take something extremely dramatic to distract her.

"Death!" Wesker exclaimed. "Or worse, our child could mutate and kill you before he is even born!"

Rebecca paused at this and looked back at Wesker, her fingers on the sheet. His tone sounded strange to her. There was a depth and a fear there that she'd never heard before. It wasn't like Albert Wesker to fear anything.

Wesker's whole body was tense as Rebecca paused, everything hung on whether she decided to leave the sheet, or remove it. "Is it so wrong of me to want to keep you safe?" He asked, unknowingly echoing Jill's words.

Rebecca didn't move her hand, though she did look at Wesker over her shoulder. "You were so ready to give me up before. I'm not sure what to believe from you anymore, Albert."

"I'm sorry, when did I become the one who needed forgiveness?" Wesker asked somewhat cruelly.

Rebecca turned her back on him at this, his tone forcing her to remember how cruel he'd been when he'd spoken to her on the phone. It still made her insides hurt. It was obvious he still believed her guilty and that truly hurt. "Is that why you're still avoiding me?" She whispered.

"Must we continue to go in circles?" Wesker replied, his patience wearing thin. "I told you, I am simply busy. My desire for you not to come down here is purely for your safety, and the safety of our child."

Rebecca fingers trembled somewhat, though she wasn't sure why. She wanted to yank the sheet back and have something to accuse him of. She wanted to turn the tables on him. But for some reason she simply let the sheet go and walked back out of the lab, her shoulders slumped in defeat. "I'm going back to bed." She muttered.

Wesker also seemed to sag slightly, though it was out of relief more than anything else. He still didn't know what the child growing in Rebecca's belly truly was, given that it carried his blood. Ruby was the safety net he needed to keep Rebecca from harm. He let her leave, then moved Ruby's unconscious form into one of the cells next to his other once human bio monsters. If Rebecca did come deeper into the lab, perhaps ruby would merely blend in with the rest of them.

Rebecca didn't go back to her room. Instead she sat in the mess hall with a number of Wesker's guards. She was rather happy to find someone to talk to, even if the lot of them were rather rough.

"So is it true? Does the old man sleep in a coffin like Dracula?" One of the guards asked, his deep laughter booming around the mess hall. "Seriously, sometimes it's like he ain't even human!"

Rebecca couldn't help but laugh. It brought back memories of the STARS members discussing Wesker over a dinner party. Of course it never started until they were sure he wasn't coming...
"No coffin." She confirmed. "But he has been known to take a nap in an iron maiden." She teased.
