So slow to catch on

Jill gave Leon a little push, then smiled. "Believe me, these things can last days." She assured him. "Besides, I want the chance to grill you myself."
"You doubt my suitability as a mother?" Claire asked thinly, folding her arms across her chest.

Jill didn't reply. She folded her arms across her chest and turned her gaze out the window, signalling an end to the discussion, if it could be called that.

"Fine!" Chris shouted, growling in frustration as he held one hand on the wheel and tried to get to his phone with the other. "You don't even remember how stubborn you are and you're still stubborn!"

"Well that's something else that your going to blame me for, isn't it?!" Jill shot back, her blue eyes fierce as they narrowed at Chris.

The memory slammed into him so fast that Chris was forced to slam on the brakes. The night he'd lost Jill...the fight had sounded almost exactly the same. "Babe...I'm so sorry." He whispered. His mind was far away right then, reminding him that he should have known what was wrong with her. Jill had been pregnant then. If he'd have been paying attention he would have seen it. Which meant...he'd allowed Wesker to kill more than just his only love.

Jill didn't understand Chris' reaction to her words, and was a little worried by it. "Which part are you sorry for?" She asked suspiciously, as though suspecting that her partners mind was elsewhere. If only either of them knew that their daughter was all grown up... Though her life was about to be terminated.

Chris didn't answer. He simply rested his head on the steering wheel, suddenly too tired to even drive.

Jill leaned over and took the keys from the ignition. "You're not getting these back until you've had at least eight hours sleep. Are we clear?" She told Chris, unknowingly being just as bossy as she had always been.

"We're never going to get a vacation like this." Chris groaned, rubbing at his eyes. "Jill, can we please just wait until we get there to rest?"

"No." Jill replied firmly, lifting herself up slightly to push the keys into the back pocket of her skinny fitting jeans. "I won't be responsible for you keeling over with exhaustion."

"I will make it!" Chris protested, feeling a little childish as he shoved out of the car and stomped after Jill. "If you remembered, you'd know that!" He shouted, his foot in mouth disease getting the better of him.

Jill paused where she was with her back to Chris, his words obviously wounding her. With a swift gesture she pulled the keys back out of her pocket and tossed them behind her to land at Chris' feet. "Then you go alone." She told him, then kept right on walking.

"Damn it...Jill!" Chris stuttered, not sure how he was going to fix this problem. "I'm sorry, okay? I'm just...I'm in a bad mood...And I am tired. Please...don't go."

"I told you you were tired, but you wouldn't listen! And frankly... I am sick and tired of your bad moods! They are giving me A headache!" Jill shot back, thou she continued her angry footsteps.

"Me too." Chris confessed, simply sliding down the side of the car and burying his face in his hands. "I wish I could explain it beyond the fact that my life is shit. Nothing ever goes right."

When she heard Chris slide to the ground, Jill halted, guilt hitting her though she didn't know why. "Just because it doesn't go the way you want... Doesn't mean it isn't right." She breathed, daring to glance back over her shoulder.

Chris shook his head at this but didn't say any more. "Jill, don't leave me right now. Please? I still need you. Even if you don't really need me."

Jill was already crouched in front of Chris, her hands resting lightly on his knees. "I need you too, you're the anchor to my past, remember?" She told him softly.

"Is that the only reason you need me?" Chris asked her, his eyes filled with grief that went all the way to his soul.

That look tortured Jill, and she had to glance away. "How can you ask me that?" She whispered. "I don't remember anything more than a few feelings..." She added, though her pale blue eyes met Chris' again. "When you kissed me..." Her lashes fluttered closed for a brief moment at the memory. "It wasn't strange, it was... Familiar. It... Was wonderful." She blushed slightly as she opened her eyes at that confession.

She would open her eyes to Chris leaning close to her. Before she could respond he was pressing his lips to hers.

Jill's hearty fluttered all over again as Chris kissed her, something she would beg him to do again and again. Before she knew it she was straddled in his lap, her fingers tangling into his dark hair as she returned the heated kiss.

"Here?" Chris asked after several long moments of breathless kissing. It didn't bother him a bit that they were on the side of the road but he knew his Jill. For all the places she didn't mind him making love to her, a public road was certainly not one of them.

"No..." She breathed against his lips, though her fingers were lightly tracing the hard muscle of his abdomen beneath his shirt. "We need to go..." She agreed, yet didn't seem capable of peeling herself away.

Chris was groaning as he picked Jill up and somehow managed to fish the keys off the ground. "There's a hotel near the highway...if we can wait just a few more minutes..."

Jill was squeezing Chris' hand tightly by the time they walked into the hotel, her cheeks still a little flushed as she ran the fingers of her other hand through her dark hair. For the first time since waking up in that morgue she was beginning to feel like maybe things weren't quite so hopeless.

Chris felt this feeling too as he laid his lover down on the cool sheets of the hotel room and began to remove her clothing. They would get through this. They had to.

Jill felt somewhat apprehensive as Chris helped her out of her clothing. With her body laid bare to him, there was nothing to hide the many scars she bore, even though she knew he had already seen them probably a hundred times before. What bothered her the most, was not knowing how she had gotten them. Jill did her best to push these thoughts aside as she focused her attention back on her partner, her fingers lightly brushing over a faded scar they found on his own broad shoulder.

"You always said that scars made us special." Chris whispered, his rough fingers sliding over hers. "You said that if we didn't have them then we might forget who we are and where we came from."

Jill's sky coloured eyes looked up into Chris' with a renewed hope and she kissed him softly. "Then you need to tell me the story of my scars... Some other time." She breathed, her long legs sliding around Chris as she rolled them over, smiling down at him once their positions were reversed.

Chris woke up late the next morning, feeling better than he had in a long while. He was smiling from ear to ear as he called Ark, for the moment believing that his world couldn't get any better.
